That's a very special 442! My first car was a 1yr used 1968 442. Took it to my Auto Technology class and the "professor" said in front of the class, "Boy you must be rolling in the dough." I was working nights at Strathmore Paper Company 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

Lou... Kevin is right this car has the tri power carbs...In 1980 I was used car manager at Lester Goodson Pontiac houston Texas one night a man came in to purchase a new firebird and trade in his 1966 442 4 speed tri power oldsmobile... well as the new car manager bid the blue 442 at $800 dollars and the original owner wanted $1400 dollars, I told him he was wrong about what the car was worth wholesale...so I bought the car for $1400 for myself...Then as I have done many times, a few weeks later a customer offered me $2600 for the 442 and of course I sold it...and 1966 was the last year for 3-2 barrel carbs...If I had kept all the cars I bought at the dealerships I would have a huge collection today...Another oldie from my memory warehouse...........

That's a cool story, Yesenia. I wish I had kept all the Oldsmobiles I had in the past - 67, 73 442 ( my favorite ) 455 4 spd. It was billed as a holiday coupe for insurance purposes. 75 C.S, 77 C.Supreme. Even had a 86 Cutlass Ciera thrown in, too. All great cars. ! That 66 would be a great car to own.

Beautiful, rare car. This is why I subscribe! It reminded me of the 1967 Buick GS400, though this is far more hard core. Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac all did interesting cars that were very different from the mainstream Chevelle. 66 & 67 cars were awesome to see and one of my favorite epochs of the early muscle car time.

Wow, Lou - another 442 ! Seems like you feature these & Mopars quite a bit. I'm not complaining, 2 of my favourite cars. Been a long time since I've seen an F-85 ,with the 442 package added on.What a find, and so rare.! Looks like a 3- 2 barrel set up on top, correct me if I'm wrong. Seems like all the car companies were in competition to produce factory race cars for NHRA competition. Hate to think what that car is worth ! Thanks to John for having this cool 442, I think if I had it, there would be a lot more miles on the odometer. ! Thanks Lou, and thumbs up!

Robert Pace…like you I have always been a fan of the 442. When first introduced it was an option that could be added to across the F-85 and Cutlass S models. Beginning in 1968, the 442 became a model unto itself. Some say it was at that time the 442 meant 4-barrel carb, 4 speed transmission, dual exhaust and later was change to mean 400 ci V-8, 4 barrel carb, and dual exhaust when the big block torque motor was introduced…..while others say the nomenclature changed with the availability of an automatic transmission option. Keep in mind, like this 1966/67 442s W-30 came with a tri power carb setup with front bumper mounted ram air intakes like the car here. In 1968 the intakes were moved to below the front bumper and switching to a twin intake round air cleaner setup. In 1970 with the introduction of the W-25 fiberglass hood with twin intakes feeding cold air to a vacuum operated flapper round air cleaner lid. The hood was held in place with twist lock pins at the front corners. Some would say the Olds “B” bodies handled better than its GM brothers. At the time the 442 was the only “B” body mark that came with a rear mounted sway bar.

@@lorenzomartini6165 Excuse me Lorenzo, in 1976 I picked up a maroon/black 1967 F85 post W30 442, for $125 bucks. I knew the car was rare at that time, but not sure how special it really was. The 400 had a 4 barrel carb/ the ram air was mounted between the headlights, and the turn signals were relocated to the bumper slot like the 66.the battery was in the trunk right side like the 66 shown here, and the car also has red inner fenders( like All) W30's supposedly? This white 66 , they never mentioned the red fenders, not sure why? And he failed to mention the tripower set up? I've never been a post fan, but I understand why they were built. I'm a rabid car fan/ hobbyist, and am dreaming of the day that I will locate another 66 442, that's my holy grail, that got away! Dan C.

Around 15 years ago, a 1966 W30 442 was found in a back yard in the mid west; I forgot what state it was. It was a no drivetrain roller & it had no interior or floors left in it either, but it had all the telltale clues proving it to be one of the 54. For example the bracketry for the trunk mounted battery was present along with the battery cables & the factory clips that held them down to the trunk floor. It also had remnants of the giant intake hoses left in the engine compartment along with the under-bumper scoops. I can't remember what color it was originally but I seem to recall black or burgundy....

Goodday Lou, As Australia's biggest Oldsmobile fan I recently received for Father's Day the latest book on Oldsmobile. " Oldsmobile W - Powered Muscle Cars" by David Newhardt. What a great book. According to David the 1966 4-4-2 W30 Track Pack vehicles were equipped with the L69 400-ci engine rated at 360 hp. Only 54 W30 packages were installed at the factory; 93 were bolted on at dealerships. Either way the beginning of the W - Powered Muscle Cars. Another intresting fact with Oldsmobile. The W is in recognition of Jack " Doc " Watson. John Beltz who was chief engineer at the time when the first 442 were build. Absolutely stunning 1966 & extremely rare F85 442 W30 Oldsmobile one of my favorites. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

I love the 442, such a clean, simple shape, especially the earlier ones. That car would be wasted on me, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from using it and it would be instantly devalued!

Grandma and grandpa had a '66 or '67 Cutlass. It was white with red interior. Apparently my uncle had dreams of it to have been a 442. I remember a distinctive Oldsmobile whirling sound. Grandma also had a big hat pin (?) in the carpet at the transmission - it was to stick someone if she needed defense. I also remember the sharp top edges of the fenders while driving; they seemed to be guides.

Well, just finish watching the episode on this beauty: 1966's Olds "442" model. My former brother-in-law (whose now in his late 70's) had a gold-copper color model with the Hurst shifter. It was a mover! Had a few rides in it. One was from Indianapolis (my home with my folks) to Brown County, Indiana for Thanksgiving at my grandmother's home. The journey down there...quick! I was impressed as a 16 year old. I'm watching right now, Jay Leno's Garage. He is doing a review of this same year, make, model car. He's got the record showing that back then in '66, it was $4300. This model he has is black with silver trims. Gosh! Makes you want one. Seems like this one had some "changes" due to, as he looks at it on the car lift, it is not his car but someone else's. But, 1966 was his (Jay's) favorite car year along with 1932. My folks had 3 Oldsmobile models when they were alive: 1970 "Delta 88" (I loved that car, the most!); 1975 "Cutlass" with the Landow (?) roof - yuck!; and, 1980 "Cutlass" ? The first two were powered by the famous 350 V-8...a dependable engine. The last one, the '80...under powered V-6...what (without looking it up for facts)...170 H.P. Anyway, GM really started to lose the game, as we know. Thanks, Lou, for these episodes. Have you met Leno, yet? Jay and I are the same age - 71.

one of the fastest cars from my days in the early 70`s was a friend with a 67 cutlass with a 70 model 455 engine .. super quick in the 60 foot times .. jumped so many cars out of the hole that they gave up .. he wrapped it around a big tree and broke the car in two pieces but walked away ..

Mr. John Demmer related to me in the fall of 2017 how the Demmer pattern makers hand made these outside air induction air shround. He mentioned that the reason for numbering them was they were hand drilled for the screws that held the lid and bottom sections together. Mr. Demmer sponsored a few 4-4-2's, including a '66 called the "Rectifier ". Tom "Blank" Blankenship, an Oldsmobile Engineer then drove the Rectifier cars.

The very bucket list car/Oldsmobile that I will never own! Other than car shows the closest I've been to an original one of 54 car is a guy named Larry located in the downriver area of Detroit. Not gonna get more specific than that on here. Back in the day of street racing, cruising, track days etc with my 1970 442 and all my Oldsmobile friends, it was always a special treat when that autumn bronze '66 came out to play! His was unrestored, aside from what looks like a simple repaint back in the 70s and a little rough around the edges. What makes this particular car in question so cool is the fact that it seen regular street duty in it's battle scarred form. Have not seen that car in some time but I've also been out of the scene since my 70 has been laid up in a state of disassembly for double digit years while my body has been laid up by disability since 2018. Since then it has not taken long at all to lose touch with almost everybody in that car world where I used to reside. Side note : the guy with the 66 W-30 also had an all black hardtop L-69 tri power car, non W-30 of course. This was also a nice looking original faded paint black, almost looked like primer but was the original black, w/red interior, 4 speed of course (no auto available with any tri carbed Olds in 66). It finally came up for sale and was available. Went to check it out and was so let down. Just a few, maybe 10 years or so had passed and this old car had went down considerably. Michigan winters were not kind to even sitting outside in the driveway. The $3000 at the time, around 1998 or 99 if I had to guess, was worth it for parts and the tri power alone, but wasn't worth it to me for resto or even to just save it as is. Truth is I didn't have the money or would have got it. He wouldn't budge on the price. Yes I'm still kicking myself now for not doing it because I was much younger then and would have finished it and most likely still have it. But none of that was meant to be. If you made it this far in my long ass post thank you for reading. Wishing everyone a very happy New Year and let's all pray 2023 is a turning point for the better here in the USA and around the world! Take care all!

Built for NHRA C/stock class and competed mainly with Tri Power 389 Goats. I personally love the looks of a ‘66 442. The 442’s went super ugly in ‘68 though. 442’s used to do very well when I was racing in the late 60’s. Well balanced cars though the W30 (400 ci)and W31’s (350 ci)were built for speed
