1967 Olds 442 W-30
The Oldsmobile 4-4-2 (also known as the 442) is a muscle car produced by Oldsmobile between the 1964 and 1987 model years. Introduced as an option package for US-sold F-85 and Cutlass models, it became a model in its own right from 1968 to 1971, spawned the Hurst/Olds in 1968, then reverted to an option through the mid-1970s. The name was revived in the 1980s on the rear-wheel drive Cutlass Supreme and early 1990s as an option package for the new front-wheel drive Cutlass Calais.
The "4-4-2" name (pronounced "Four-four-two") derives from the original car's four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, and dual exhausts (Some maintain that the '2' indicated a limited-slip differential). It was originally written "4-4-2" (with badging showing hyphens between the numerals), and remained hyphenated throughout Oldsmobile's use of the designation. Beginning in 1965, the 4-4-2s standard transmission was a three-speed manual along with an optional two-speed automatic and four-speed manual, but were still badged as "4-4-2"s. Because of this change, from 1965 on, according to Oldsmobile brochures and advertisements, the 4-4-2 designation referred to the 400 cubic inch engine, four-barrel carburetor, and dual exhausts. By 1968 badging was shortened to simply "442", but Oldsmobile brochures and internal documents continued to use the "4-4-2" model designation.
For 1967 the 4-4-2's styling and base engine remained the same, save for minor trim changes, a distinctive louvered hood, and an increase in intake valve size to 2.067 from 1.99. The three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission with Switch Pitch became available, replacing the two-speed Switch Pitch Jetaway, as was the case with the mid-sized muscle cars from other GM divisions (Pontiac GTO, Chevrolet Chevelle SS396, and Buick GS400). The heavy-duty floor-mounted three-speed manual transmission was now standard with the Muncie M-20 and M-21 four-speeds optional, all with Hurst shifters. Front disc brakes were a new option.
A GM policy decision banning multiple carburetors for all vehicles except Ed Cole's beloved Corvette and the Corvair saw the demise of the L69 with its triple carburetors, a rare option for Olds and an icon for Pontiacs since 1957. The W30 remained available, although the four-barrel Quadrajet carburetor replaced the tri carb setup. New red plastic inner fender liners became part of the W30 package. 502 factory W30 engines were built to meet NHRA homologation rules, along with an unknown number of dealer-installed packages.
Cars tested a W30 4-4-2 with close-ratio four-speed and 4.33 rear axle (a dealer-installed only option), obtaining a quarter mile of 14.1 seconds at 103 mph (166 km/h) in completely stock form. 0-60 mph times were between 6.5 and 6.7 seconds.
Unlike in previous years which the 4-4-2 option could be ordered on either baseline F-85 or upscale Cutlass models, the 1967 4-4-2 package was based on the top-line Cutlass Supreme series, including the sport coupe (with center post), Holiday hardtop coupe and convertible. Standard equipment on all models included Strato bucket seats or no-cost notchback bench seat, full carpeting, expanded Morocceen vinyl upholstery, heavy-duty suspension with rear sway bar, and wide-oval tires.
Like all cars sold in the U.S. for 1967, the 4-4-2 came standard with a group of occupant protection and accident avoidance features mandated by Federal law. This package included an energy-absorbing steering column and safety steering wheel, padded dash, recessed controls, four-way hazard flashers, and a dual-circuit brake hydraulic master cylinder.
Production rose somewhat from the previous year, rising to 24,833.

True and correct. Olds was competing against the GTO, Chevelle and Gransport, came up with 4-4-2 package and 4-4-2 was not a Cutlass was different yet similar. Ah the fun of the cars back then, i had few Novas if your were shy dont own old car, you will be noticed and get attention. i did even by law enforcement in the SS Nova. If i had my car out or the 4-4-2 in this video some damn starling would bomb it.

Correct Willie Dells in 64 the motor was 330 cu in and all were 4 speeds , in 65 when GM let them go to 400 cu in , you could get a 3spd manual , auto , and 4spd manual , so Oldsmobile changed it to 400, 4 barrel 2 exhaust

…this black beauty is from my favorite year of the 60’s Olds models with the deep set headlamp bezels, featuring the turn signals set between the high and low beam lamps…creating the illusion of additional width… … and just so you know, you can bring up official Olds sales brochures which support the “2” referring to the dual exhaust… whoever gave you the idea that it referred to “2 doors” didn’t know whst they were talking about… … this car epitomizes Olds ability to seamlessly blend beauty and brawn…and though true gear heads of the day may heve rejected its chrome trim as “too glitzy”, it surely has held up well over term… … nice pick, guys…may we see more, please?

Nah, the ‘66 looked just as good as the ‘67 except for the headlights. I think the 66 had better looking tail lights! And the ‘65 had the coolest exhaust tips. But to me all of the the pre-68s were definitely the prettiest!

That's a beautiful car! Oldsmobile market the 1964 4-4-2 as 4 Barrel 4 on the floor 2 dual exhaust. 1964 iit"s first year it was only available with a 4 speed, and a 330 cubic in 310 horsepower. In 1965 and years after it was available with automatic and manual but Olds keep the name 4-4-2. From 1965-1969 it was equipped with a 400 cubic in only with up to 360 rated horsepower. 1970 came the 455.

I was the happiest 17year old in town. I had a five year old Olds 67 442. It is by far the most favorite car I have ever owned. (56 Chevy, 1969 442, 69Chevelle) Black vinyl/white body. It kicked butt! It was in perfect condition when I bought it, only in the 60K mile range........paid a whole $550.00 for it from the local Lincoln/Mercury Dealer. It got totaled one night by my drunk elderly neighbor. I was inspired by my cousin who had the true 1965 442, 400CI, 4speed, dual exhaust. It was a screamer.

Had multiples of 67 442's and a 1970 442 W30. Now I have none and cannot afford to replace them. Didn't know the red inner fenders were an option? I think by 1970 they were standard in the W30s. Kind of disappointed you guys didn't take it for a spin and romp on it, but I understand how collectible they are now. 😞Still, thumb up for showing it. 🙂

IMO the best looking Oldsmobile ever put on the road. Not a heavy car . Aprox 3350 to 3400 lbs. My old girl was teal with a black vinyl top. Ancient Aztek Metallic Blue if I remember correctly. I can’t believe an olds 442 family member doesn’t know their 442 history any better than this! If you will do your research, you will find out that in 1964 when the 442 first came out it, indeed did stand for 4 barrel carb, four-speed transmission and dual exhausts. And it had a 330 cid engine. But also in 1964 ONLY, they actually did make a few of the 442s in the four door sedan cutlass body. The 442 was actually a police package in 1964. that is a fact brother. And beginning in the 1965 model year, they changed the meaning of 442 to mean 400 cid, 4 bbl carb, and dual exhausts, NOT 2 doors!

Factory horsepower for both '66 & '67 W30-equipped Olds' were rated @ 360, though the tri-power went away in '67. Another mistake alleged here was that no remote outside mirror was available, when in fact option D33 (O remote RV-mirror) cost $9.48, but only if a buyer was buying a Cutlass Supreme. What's sad is that totally bogus aftermarket Sun tach stuck in there behind the idiot lights......I would hope the owner's in search of an original & correct tick-tock-tach w/the accompanying gauge cluster.

If you look, the yellow sticker on the bottom of the trunk lid says the car has a limited slip rear end. The battery was in the trunk because the air inlet lines took the space for the battery. Does the owner know anything about the car or does he just have a lot of money?
