Thanks for this video. My uncle is playing for the Blues here.

Who was your uncle, Mo_Taser? That's wonderful that you can see him in this historic video!

Seth Martin! Wow! There is a name I haven't heard in a long while.
@donhuber91313 жыл бұрын
His only season as a professional. Played about 25 regular season games and 1 period in the playoffs.

Seth Martin was the goalie for the Canada National Team at Winter Olympics, back in the day when, if someone played professional hockey he could not play in the Olympics.

When did St. Loo acquire Jacques Plante? Had forgotten about Martin, thought Glenn Hall's backup was Ernie Wakely
@poettttt11 ай бұрын
@@oliverwashburn2860 Jacques Plante ended two years of retirement to join the St. Louis Blues in the 2nd year of NHL Expansion, 1968-69.

I wanted to see this game for years. Many Thanks ! Would you happen to have the North Stars vs Leafs or Seals vs Leafs from 1967-68.

I wish unfortunately I don't have hardly any games from 67-68 this might be the only one I might possibly have one Boston Montreal game

Wow! This was not too long after the Blues acquired Berenson and Barc Plager from the Rangers. Red's goal was only the second he had scored with the Blues after the trade. Barc and Red are easily the best STL players. Had Bowman not made that trade, the Blues first season would have been a disaster. I'm glad Glenn Hall had the night off! The Blues looked like a minor league team playing the defending cup champs. The expansion project was a poorly executed mess.

Barclay Plager - who was usually paired with Noel Picard - recalled that when a game was out of hand (such as the game here), Picard would say: "We punish them now."

This was sure not a good night for the STL Blues but they sure gained momentum winning a couple of game 7s in the playoffs to be the best expansion team to go to the Finals versus Montreal. It was very strange how they put all the expansion teams together in the same division but I think it was a compromise among the original 6 teams. The Blues lost all 4 games to Montreal in the finals with 2 of the games going tp overtime because their goalie Glenn Hall was unbelievable. Blues coach Scotty Bowman brought in Montreal veterans Dickie Moore and Doug Harvey for help. I was a freshman in high school in STL their first year. I remember well my first two Blues games I attended were a win versus Detroit and a tie versus the Rangers, but I do not think they were in their first season. This is great seeing the old video. I also remember this Maple Leafs team well. I grew up a hockey fan of the STL Braves that were a AAA minor league team of the Chicago Black Hawks.

@@vwm8534 Good for you. I was a freshman in high school their first year of 1967-1968 and did a KZfaq search on STL Blues today. I remembered the games being very competitive in the 1968 Final versus Montreal with Blues goalie Glenn Hall playing so well that they actually had a slim chance of winning the Cup against a very good Montreal team, even though they were a first year expansion team. Montreal goalie Gump Worsley also came up with big saves. So glad 2019 happened.

Blues had a damn good team, Barrinson was a tough SOB

They were definitely the best of the expansion teams this game was not too great I wish Glen Hall would have been in gold for this one

would you happen to have Blues at Leafs from Dec. 26, 1969. It was the first game I ever went to.

The Blues would slightly change these white (away) uniforms just before the playoffs in 68. They would keep that basic classic design until 1979...then go through a series of Uniform failures that kind of continue today other than their throw back dark jerseys...I wish they would return to the classic look full time.
@vwm85343 жыл бұрын
I too, love those throwbacks. I like most of Blues jerseys over the years. They fell off a bit in late 70's and early 80's but have been good otherwise. IMO

Could that broadcaster have been more boring? Goal! And nothing else. Guess instant replay wasn't yet in existence either. It makes this Blues fan so grateful that the legendary Dan Kelly came to town in their second year, alongside the impish Gus Kyle, who was just wonderful with his poor vocabulary but tremendous enthusiasm. Those two educated St. Louis about pro hockey. But it's still great to see the Blues in their first year of existence. They may not have been as good as Toronto and the other originals, but it wasn't their fault. After all, expansion teams are made up of the better team's leftovers.

Instand replay was in existence during this season but the whole game wasn't televised. They don't talk during the stopage because he is only doing a warm up for the telecast that usually starts after the first period.

Instant replay was in existence at that time but they didn't televise the whole game. Bill Hewitt doesn't talk during the stoppage because he is only doing a warmup for the broadcast that usually started after the first period.
@GuyCybershy2 жыл бұрын
The first period was not shown on TV. Hewitt is merely providing background in case it is used for highlight packages which were sold to affiliates.

It’s like watching mites in minor leagues lol. Was the skill and level of play that low back then?? Russian teams of 60s looked more like they knew how to play, e.g actually hold on to the puck and not lose it the moment you touch it, collect passes nicely etc..
@vwm85345 жыл бұрын
the skill level did suffer a bit that was the first year of expansion so a lot of guys that probably would have been in the minor leagues we're in the NHL it got better
