I had a 60 Falcon with a 200 from a 65 Mustang. I just put a set of Hooker headers on, installed an Isky solid lift cam and drilled out the main jet in the one barrel carb. I turned that engine 6,000 rpm regularly for 12 years and never even had to adjust the valves.

Summit racing sells a Offenhauser 3 carb adapter for the small log. My 64 Falcon has one on the same motor setup that you have there. I installed a Claysmith cam, header, weber carbs, and a T-5 behind it. The Falcon runs like it's a stock 289. Very quick car, I surprise a lot of people, everyone thinks it's a 302 with the lopey idle.

In this case. I would get rid of the '63 head and get a later model "large log" head then make the same mods.

the 144 and 170 has 3 freeze plugs in the block // 200 has 5 freeze plugs in the block

If originall numbers isn’t a problem, the best flowing heads are the prefix D8BE and E1BE. 200 engines from 1969 use the same head as the 250.

Can you possibly send me a link where you got the crank main bearings if you put new ones in? Im trying to rebuild mine but I can’t find main bearings for the life of me

I have a distribution account with a place called EPWI. You have to own a machine shop in order to use them. Let me know what size bearings you need and I'll see if I can get you a set

Are you still working on this? I also have a 1968 fastback with a 200 straight 6 in it. Numbers matching with a 3 speed manual. I thought for sure mine would be the only one left in existence!

Some people liked the 170 head because bumped the compression up. But at the same time the new head gasket is thicker than the stock steel one so you'll lose a little. The Aussie 250 4v head was the head your thinking that has the removable intake. They're hard to get though. Id put an auto light 2v and a DUI ignition, cam and call it a day. And a header. I say that but my 66 bronco is getting a supra turbo on it's 170.....

@@whirlwindjml stay tuned, still working on this, things move slowly in my world. Most the projects on my channel are weekend warrior stuff. But we are working on something pretty exciting for this

Thanks so much for posting this video! I have this same motor in my ‘65 Mustang and am probably looking at a rebuild in the coming years. I learned a ton from your video - thanks! Looking forward to watching your progress… Question - I have the number ‘22’ above my block ID but I noticed that yours did not. Otherwise, our numbers are identical. Any idea what that means? Liked and subscribed for sure!
