This is a video of a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner with a really loud exhaust. The exhaust sound on this Road Runner was amazing, and the rear tires were really big! I ran over to the Plymouth as soon as I heard the exhaust idle!

This was the car my mother drove me and my brother to kindergarten and 1st grade in.Back then (5-6 years old) I knew this car was a legend.I asked my mom to never sell it but to let me have it when I turn 16.She sold it (traded in) for and oldsmobile delta 88 two years later and I was heartbroken.Fifty years later and I'm still not over it Lol!

Richard Kager that’s a heartbreaker alright! My son loves the 01 Jack Roush Mustang stage 3 and I’m keeping it for him for his 16th! He just turned 11 this year, I promised him if he said dad for his first words that he would get a muscle car! I’m eating my words now but it’ll be worth it for him! My daughter however is in love with the 86 k10 Silverado, that’s hers!

@White Plug what don't kill 'em makes em stronger, but yeah I agree. Every dude I know that somehow got his muscle car like a 454 SS 4 speed...or a 67 Camaro wrapped it around a telephone pole or something before he graduated. Every single one of them....it takes years to gain enough experience to handle muscle car power.

A friend of mine bought a new 1968 Hemi Roadrunner that was an absolute beast regardless of the amount of people in the car. I think he got a race Hemi by a screwup on the assembly line because the street Hemi had two inline Carter carburetors but his had the cross ram intake on it and those only came on the race Hemi engines it also had solid lifters in it and would PULL to 7000 RPM. It only lasted a year before he wrapped it around some trees when he went off the road at about 40 MPH but he had his foot in the radiator as usual and hit some black ice and it was totaled. The the story was told , he went back to the same Plymouth dealership to order another one in 1969 and was told NO as he was well known by the police department for his crazy driving and it seems they had some words with the sales manager. He then tried to order a 440 six pack and got another NO! They finally allowed him to get a 440 single 4 barrel GTX which had about half the push you back into the seat force that the 68 Hemi had.

@@hiltonlouque1504 I'm only 35 and while not a youngster compared to the ones just getting out of high school age I'm glad I appreciate and have a love for true American muscle. Parents when I was a kid were still into the muscle of the best years in Detroit and quite a few owned them, especially fathers who knew how to turn a wrench and were on the drag strip on the weekends. It got passed on to a lot of us but unfortunately kids now have no idea. My Grandpa retired from Chrysler in Fenton, MO as a millright and was there during the muscle car war days. He had a Model T project in the garage when I was growing up too. Some sticky tires, a cam, intake and the right carb back in the day would get you some dang good slip times in the 1/4 back then if you could get it to hook up. There wasn't launch control built in or suspension adjusted by a screen in the car. You had to actually know something about your vehicle.

I grew up in the late 50s and thru them 60s. Always a GM fan, until I saw my first 64 Plymouth Sport Fury! Love at first sight. Earlier Mopars were so far from the norm that I did not appreciate them. It took me years to look at a 61 Dart and recognize the daring concept behind the look. Thru the years when Mopar hit a home run, it was always a monster blast out of the park! So many great years followed by a couple of mediocre years. I’m a Mother Mopar fan now and until I die. It’s been a wild ride!!

thats only when you put your foot on it the beauty of the six pack was that you where running off the centre 2 bbl most of the time , my old 340 6 pack with progressive manual secondaries would give me 18 mpg and back then that was amazing with a dual point ignition high performance could also mean high efficiency as well . but when you open those outbound 500 cfm carbs watch out the engine actually cooled off when it received all that fuel, the 340 was probably one of the most underrated engines ever.

this is one sexy roadrunner! what makes the old muscle so endearing is when you drive them, its like controlling an unpredictable animal. it stirs the "bareback horse" tingle that one wrong move, and you're in pain. sure, after 50 years, our technology has advanced. it was supposed to. everything is so calm, smooth and milquetoast now. not animalistic. that's what we all miss. no one writes songs about taking a dangerous corner in a honda civic, or the little old lady with a tesla. cruising the local sonic in a porsche boxster or romantic interludes watching the stars in the backseat of a drop top miata.

I love prostreet muscle! My dad at one point owned a 66 chevelle with a big block. It was a 454, making at least 700 hp. It had nitrous and a minitub. He would throw the car in first gear and it would lift the front end off the ground! At one point the car launched so hard the body was Coming off the frame. He eventually sold that car like a dumb ass. I was a little kid. I still have the 8 ball shifter. A week later he buys an original z28 69 camaro. He adds the 454 big block from the chevelle, along with an 871 super charger and some Merlin heads. He has a lot of money in this car. He just got rid of the two carbs for efi. I haven’t rode in that car since 1999. But when he drove it, we outran some cops. Jumped a train track before a train managed to hit us. My dad was a ride or die kinda guy. They call him the car whisperer because he is just so gifted with cars.
