I have a 69 Z/28 that I still have I bought it in 1971 for one reason to Autocross and road race that is all I have ever done with it. It still has the radio, console, heater and dash in it. I started out in AA sedan a stock legal class I shifted at 7,000 and turned it 7800 on the straight away. I reheated the rods to max strength and shot peen to to GM spec's. I moved up to A improved sedan (GT1 today) I then shifted at 8400 and at Pacific Race Ways I clear turn one at 8100 in forth 170 MPH I don't let off until I am going into turn 2 It is Silver with a black vinyl top.

I see you made a comment with out knowing any thing about this race the car or the driver this car is all original the way it ran in 1973 as of Trans Am rules of that era i know I help Maintain that car with my historic Trans Am car and frank drove that car for 1970 to 1976 then sold the car then bought it back in the 1990 to restore it to race it again that is not an easy car to drive and in. This video he is in his 70s it amazes that he could still dive it that well the cars that are in front have a lot more modern components in them that make a hug advantage over franks car and by your comment I can see you have never drive a race car like we do so next time think before making a comment like that and go get a 100K and buy a car like that and see how well you do we would be lapping you See you on the track 😂

The engine could never do that stock. The heads can't flow that well. The only way is to bump the compression up really high. The Trans Am cars ran around 465hp and they used Ford 1:7 ratio rocker arms and Ford lifters .874 instead of GM .842. Thats why they had those stretch marks on the valve covers because they hammered them out. They didn't have after market valve covers back then.

The factory single 4 bbl 302's made 445 hp @ 7400 rpm on the GM dynos. The Traco race 302's made in excess of 525 hp.

@@496chevyrat Who said anything about "stock"??? These 302 Chevy's used in Trans Am racing were worked by the team's engine builders, and they DID indeed exceed 500 hp. That's a documented fact. The famous "Woody" 69 Camaro alone, took 1st & 2nd place in 2 different races, going up against the Shelby Cobra's & Mustangs.........that's SAYING something about how great these 302 Z-28's were. This reminds me of another example: The "Chevy mystery motor" raced in NASCAR by Ray Fox/Junior Johnson. I believe it was the 1963 year. People today claiming that motor made "around 450hp". BULLSHIT. Junior Johnson himself said they were getting well over 700 hp out of that engine, and NOTHING could touch it that year. It was a big bore, short stroke platform. Problem was, it had an inferior valve train they just couldn't get right. Junior Johnson/Ray Fox won 7 of 30 races that year, with 23 DNF's!!! That means when the motor didn't break late in the 400 & 500 mile races, it would out-run everything else on the track & win easily. Ray Fox & Junior Johnson both stated that had they been able to solve the valve train problem, they could've won every dog gone race that year. The engine was that much stronger than anything else. You can look it up. There were something like only 17 of those engines made. ( It paved the way to the 427. ) Ray Fox & Jr Johnson got 6 I believe, and Smokey Yunick got 6 as well. The remaining few engines HAD to be made available to the Ford & Chrysler teams for inspection........per race rules. But after inspection from the competing teams that weren't racing Chevy's, Junior Johnson & Ray Fox bought those few engines back from them, to make it through the season.
