Doing a little stripping and painting of small parts on the 1968 Triumph TR250 Restoration. Getting geared up to put the Weber DCOE Carburetors back on the car.

It's looking good. Filling that hole with those Webers will make it look complete. I'm glad for the tutorial on the cad plating. Got some of that to do on mine.

Really nice job with the door catches, just needs a bit of wear from use and the'll look perfect, and good to see Les back on the videos. Tell him to get on with restoring his own TR6 👍

Yes, undoubtedly those dovetails will get scratched up the first time the door is shut 😉. The ones I did on my TR6 have stood up pretty well over the past 13 years though...

Les .... I. Feel his pain, I also had some dental work done recently... tell him t takes a few weeks to get over it.. good tips on the Weber’s, I cheated and had my rebuilt...

The jets cleaned up great and the carbs will be awesome when they get back on. Good idea for mounting the Fuse box and your Cadmium paint looks very real. I did my relays, as you did, but used a UV protection Clear satin on them and I think they turned out great... yours looks great as well.
@cheftush3 жыл бұрын
I was hoping to not have to paint the relay but the aluminum case was in such bad shape I had to...I’ll put that one on the bottom of the shelf so you won’t be able to see it....I ordered a new overdrive relay for the top of the shelf....I was shocked to see how much the starter relay is to buy new...almost $60 US....by the time I received it with currency exchange and shipping it would be over $80 for a little relay 😉

@@cheftush I find it ironic that an old British car even has a starter relay. My 86 Alfa does not; all amps go through the ignition switch. I put in a relay this fall, and it starts way quicker now, less voltage drop at the switch. Go Triumph!

The cad paint system was my introduction to Eastwood’s in the late 90s. I was detailing the engine compartment of my 69 Chevelle and I wasn’t happy with the looks of the Delco power brake booster. I was initially skeptical but when I applied the 4 can system I became an Eastwood’s devotee!

Hi David, there should be a small aluminium washer that fits over the bottom part of the pump jet, they appear to be missing. Also you need to adjust the air screws on the first carb to allow more fuel. Try to use a colour tune device so you can see the colour of the burn in the cylinder. Good luck.

Hi David, the little aluminum washers were there. I did check for them thanks. When I was playing around with the running of the engine after the break in, I did also play with the mixture screws and followed the procedure about turning them in until the engine starts to run more poorly and then turning them back out a bit...yes, I’ve got a buddy who’s got some colour tunes that he’s going to lend me once the car is running again. Thanks for watching and commenting. It is appreciated. Cheers, Tush

Good progress again, Tush. Glad you may have discovered the carb issue. One comment on the relays, (you may have already done this, but) you might want to open up those OEM relays and give the contacts a cleaning. I did that last year on my 76 and they were filthy inside. Cheers,

Hi Kevin, good idea, I’ll pop the tabs on the one remaining relay...I ordered a new OD relay today.

Loving these regular updates. The cadmium paint is good, I did a similar thing with a model. Those Webber's will look so nice once they are back on the engine! The mixture might also affect plug colour.

Agreed, could be mixture but I’m glad I cleaned out this jets...I also cleaned out the mixture adjusting screws as well. Stay tuned,,,might have another video tonight 😉

Loving the regular updates. Triple Weber side draft, you sly dog. What carb setup is original to this car? Was it 2 or 3 SUs? Was this before Triumph started putting Zenith Strombergs on the North American cars? Either way, those Webers will look and sound great! Keep up the great work. Your videos have kept me motivated to brave the cold and gets some work done on my 76 spitfire. I’m YEARS away from driving it, but every step in the right direction is progress. Much love Tush!

Hey Matthew, Thanks! Stock carbs for this car would have been a pair of Zenith Stromberg carburetors. Yes, even if you can spend 30 minutes on the car when you get a chance, it all pays off in the end. I do lots of power hours and they are paying off now in the reassembly phase 100 percent. Good luck with the spitfire.

Triumphs had Strombergs until the mid 70s when they went to SUs along with the rest of the Leyland range, probably to make things simpler for emission controls etc.

OK, have to ask, what's with the CA license plate hanging up there? Were you a surfer that frequently used the word, "Dude" in CA circa 2002?
@cheftush3 жыл бұрын
The word was “stoked “....the plate is off my 1973 TR6...It came from Alamo CA and I had it shipped up to Vancouver and then Rail Car to me...the Colorado plate beside it came off my 60 TR3A....it was raced there in the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing Club.

If the clogged carb jet is only for the accelerator pump, then that wouldn't be the problem with your plug would it? Isn't the accelerator pump basically out of the picture when you idle, or fast idle?
@cheftush3 жыл бұрын
But, I was giving it the beans now and again well above 3000 rpm...so, I think the idle circuit might have been working but when I was giving it quick hits of gas those jets were not injecting fuel so the mixture would have been very lean in that carb
@JB_WI_Triumph3 жыл бұрын
@@cheftush I am still mildly skeptical. If the accelerator pump wasn't working, even on one carb, it seems like you would have noticed a hesitation when you goosed it. Of course my theory isn't self consistent because it almost looks like there was no gas getting in, but you would have noticed that too. Did you clean all the jets so we will never know, or just the accelerator one?
@cheftush3 жыл бұрын
@@JB_WI_Triumph cleaned them all....In all carbs...and cleaned the mixture screws as well....so, we shall see if I accomplished anything. Like I said, when it was running, you wouldn’t think that it had issues under any condition....but, I was a little shocked when I pulled the plugs when the front 2 were markedly different from the other 4. Anyway, the bugs will get worked out eventually.

Can one not just send all cadmium coated parts off to a real cadmium plater? I never tried it, but surely such guys must exist? Ben
@cheftush3 жыл бұрын
Sure you could...or, you can buy kits from places like Caswell if you want to make the time, effort and expense...but, by the time you do either of this things, you might as well just buy them new...it would be WAY cheaper.
