Take a look at Paul Schreck's nicely restored 1969 GT 390 Mustang Sportsroof in Winter Blue. Paul took this garage find and hauled it out of Inglewood California where is still resided with the original owners family. It had been decades since this fine and rare FE powered Mustang had seen the streets. This nicely optioned and rare GT was ordered with some great options including that 320 HP 390 FE powerplant backed by a Toploader 4 speed and 9 inch rear end with traction lock. The car also came with power disc brakes, power steering, sport deck rear seat( fold down) and the coveted in dash tachometer. Paul even upgraded the air cleaner set up to feed cold air to the carb via a factory ram air system found on 68 cobra jets and 69 cougars and torino's. Not a shaker set up but the vacuum operated flapper works perfectly and looks factory stock.
Paul has spent painstaking time and money to complete this project. He has done nearly all of the work himself over the past 8 years and this Mustang is once again a proud steed. The GT package gives the car many of the appearance upgrades popular at the time including hood pins, hood scoop with turn indicators, quad tip dual exit exhaust, side racing stripes, pop open gas cap, styled steel wheels with GT centers, quick ratio steering and handling package. All of that for just $147 extra bucks in '69. This also marked the last year the 390 would appear in the Mustang as it was dropped in 1970. Paul has much to be proud of in restoring , showing and enjoying this finely restored Mustang.

A beautiful and rare Mustang, most people don't realize that the GT option was still available on the Mustang because this was the first year for the Mach 1. As far as the 390 being the last year for the FE engine,not true because the the 428 is an FE engine also,1970 was the last year for the FE engine. In 1971 the Windsor (302,351),Cleveland (351) and the 385 series (429) engines were available.
@MustangConnection1

Yes it was a rare option and cool it was available on on 3 body styles unlike the Mach 1. Yes you are correct regarding the FE's and that is exactly what I stated in the video @9:20 in this video. Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated.

Beautiful build !!! My high school car was a 1968 Torino GT notchback configured the same way. The factory shifters were definitely super long and sloppy. My first upgrade was a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. At 65, my current toy is a 2010 Mustang GT. First upgrade, a Hurst Competition Plus shifter......lol

Ricky, Yes those shifters were almost always a "day 2" upgrade for anyone rowing gears. Cool to hear you are still daily driving a Mustang.

I owned a '69 Mach 1 GT 390. I bought it in 1976 and man was it quick. Tremendous torque. The only downside was the engine was so big for the compartment that changing the spark plugs was a pain in the butt. I had to disconnect the motor mounts and lift the engine up and use extensions on my wrench. Also I couldn't put headers on it because of that tight fit. People told me to cut out around the shock towers but I wasn't going to do all that. It was a 4 speed and it had gauges on the center consol which this car doesn't seem to have. I used to drag race all over town. I sure do miss that car...

The FE engines stuffed in the 67-70 Mustangs are indeed nightmares to do simple maintenance on for sure. Sounds like you had a very cool Mach! You may like this one too. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7qdf6qgz7DIdqM.html

@@MustangConnection1 That car is very similar to the one I owned. The original paint on mine was this color green (the guy I bought it from painted it black with no GT stripe). What was interesting about mine was my center console had 2 gauges on it. I've yet to ever see that on a Mach 1. I made the mistake of putting a competition clutch in mine and because of the harder spring the mounting under the clutch pedal came apart. Unless you're willing to put a lot of money into these muscle cars it's best to leave 'em stock. There's nothing like a big block V8 though, the sound and feel is exciting every time you turn the key. Thanks for the video!

Amazing job, getting ready to do my dads. It is a straight no accident daily driver with a 302 with a 3speed, PS and no A/C. Almost no rust to boot. Paints gone though. Had just about everything it came with including license plate holders and a book of service receipts from the same place. It’s going in shortly.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmy friend in 1974 had this very same car. His freind who worked at a Ford Dealership took that 351 windser and put a cam in it worked the 2brl heads put headers on it and left the 2brl intake on. the carb was Holley 500 2brl. the trans was 3 speed manual. That thing kicked ASS in the nieborhood and everybody knew it.

I wonder if the '69 GT was only offered in the beginning of the 1969 model year. When I see '69 GT convertibles for example, they always have production dates from 9/68-11/68.
@MustangConnection1
@MustangConnection1 5 жыл бұрын
It was offered for the entire year on all three Mustang platforms but it does appear that most were in fact built early on in the production cycle. Once the Mach 1 hit the streets it really took over. With 72k out of 299k being Mach 1's that year it killed off most people ordering the GT package.
