This car comes close to a limousine in my imagination! I can see real competition among Cadillac, Lincoln and this LeBaron, they all offer real luxury. This car would have a 440 c.i. 350 horsepower engine.

Jack, 1969, as you mentioned, was the first year for Chrysler’s “fuselage” styling. The curved body lines were well received by the buying public. 22,077 Crown and LeBarons found homes in 1969, one of Imperial’s best years in the brand’s existence. You can see the influence that the new Chrysler styling exerted on the 1971 GM and Ford offerings, as they adopted similar styling themes. The 440 V-8 produced 350 horsepower and 480 lb/ft of torque. Chrysler stylists did a good job of differentiation from the other Chrysler offerings with the front and rear styling treatments and accoutrements. Many felt of the three prestige brands, Imperial offered more exclusivity and the best engineering. Nice Imperial!

Hey, Joe! Thanks for the rundown on the new styling of Mopar products in 1969. It was a refreshing change from the somewhat linear styling of the past. Chrysler had great engines and that Torqueflite was built to take it. Now, with refreshing styling and a very plush interior, Imperial was a car to be reckoned with! Thanks! :) Jack

That's a mint condition LeBaron. The leather even looks good. My dad had a '69 Crown 4D HT. Beautiful car like driving in your living room. The tail light turn signals were sequential on the '69.

Hey Jack that is sure a beautiful car. I don't see many like that around anymore. I remember when I worked in a body shop in the early 70 a bright orange 69 Imperial came in for a repaint to a more normal color of silver. It suited the car a lot better than the orange.

Oh yeah, those cars, especially the 1973 - they are absolutely GIANT! These are the biggest cars ever made! Not even the Daytona Charger/Superbird Road Runner match these in size (235in vs 221), and they made the Crown Victoria (212) look small. The only way you could beat them would be a limousine or a really large pickup. With such *huge* cars like these, no wonder why the full-size downsize happened. They are a monster to handle any tight turns, let alone need LOTS of power to move that hefty body. But it's still a nice muscle car, though! Never seen one of them in person but I would love to see how big they actually are. Personal opinion, it would be very scary if a metal car that size slam into a present day car, as this is so big and heavy.
@coolrides
@coolrides 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the measurements on the car...it really brings home the fact that it is huge! I'd be concerned about finding an adequate parallel parking place! In a collision, where it's mass vs. mass, we know how that turns out. Thanks goodness there are energy absorbing features and engineered crumple zones in today's cars, but you always have to consider the mass of the vehicle that collided with you. Thanks! :) Jack

Hey Jack, I know these Imperials well, my friends real estate broker parents bought a new one in burnished bronze with a black top and leather interior, used to ride home from high school in it sometimes. His dad paid close to 8 grand for it in 1969, always liked the pillows for the 2 back seat rider's comfort head on the inside roofline

Big, big and slightly sinister looking car in great condition. There's a lot of small rectangles in that dash panel design. Could there be some late 60s Apollo influence there? Presumably the normal starting battery is being charged though that thin cord, not an electric power unit!
@coolrides
@coolrides 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Mick! There sure are lots of rectangles in that dash design...air and spacecraft influences have always abounded in American cars. They want to give you the illusion of boundless space travel as you sit stewing for hours in traffic here on earth! :D Yes, I'd say the battery is getting a charge! Thanks! :) Jack

I didn't like the Fuselage' years from Chrysler Corp. Chrysler's were hit or miss. Same with Dodge and Plymouth. But IMPERIAL? Imperials looked beautiful in every year of the Fuselage' era. I think 69, was probably the most beautiful of them all. I never owned one. I had a 68 Crown which I absolutely loved everything about.
