the needed differences were as you noted but also the air filter system was graphically changed, valve rotators on intake and exhaust, larger radiator and fan with more effective air volume. The 4520s could make power but couldn't deal with the heat of making it, hence the intercooler on the 4620 and early 7020 engines. The 73 and up 7020 and the 4630 used a different intercooler design and an in line injection pump. My 71 4620 PS with 4300 hours turned 172 on the dyno for 3 hours in July with no heating issues but the Pyrometer was at 1000°, not exactly good or bad, just real warm.

+thegreenerthemeaner Thanks for the overview, was just generalizing for the most part, however your description is fantastic. I did not mention the old precleaner/ air filter set up on these as I remember it, most were changed out for something more simple on these 4520's. Sounds like you have a good 4620, I will look for a video on here of it if you have one, if not, hopefully one could be uploaded sometime for all to see.

We put a set of duals on this tractor a few years after this video was made. Just recently took them off to haul it to shows. About a year ago, this tractor got a turbo and injection pump re-work. Got a video of it up, too. Had duals on it in that video.

This is the original engine to this tractor. They changed the location of the injection pump, crankcase breather, and air filter arrangement for the 1970 model year. This tractor is a fairly early '69 model year.

@@RustyCarnahan ok thanks. Looking at a 4520 but a little hesitant on everything ive heard negative about their engines.

@@actZR900 Don't be. If you can get around 1000RPM only on the PTO, and can remember to check your air filters at the start of each season, you'll love it. This engine has somewhere around 8000 hours on it and hasn't been into any deeper than valve adjustments as far as we can tell. Previous owner always ran high quality oil and JD filters and so do we.

PA FARMER I have a newer video up of the first fire up with a new turbo and injection pump. It's almost a year old at this point.

We've got a 4020 Power Shift, and a 3020 Utility Power Shift. Absolutely love them. I've been on the hunt for a '72 4620 Power Shift for years. Then we'd have a first-year Synchro, and an "updated" last year Power Shift of the first iteration of Deere's "Turbo-Built" tractors.

Why was the 4320 never any with power shift??
