I have a 1600 hf and also a 1300 guilia with a 1750 engine which were contemparies in their day. Ive owned both cars since the '80s. Its always struck me the alfa is a better car for fast road driving and theres much more you can do it to improve road performance. The Lacia is quick but very temperamental/ highly strung and not a relaxing car drive but better suited to rally stage short burst sprints which of course makrs sense. In some ways the 1300 fulvia my wife owned was more relaxing to drive. Both fun though.

My first car was a Fulvia 1.3 S2. Since then I have never been without at least one Fulvia. I have had many 1300s (various models), a couple of 1600HF lussos, a 1600 Sport Zagato and a 1969 1.6HF, as in this video. I have driven about 500,000 miles in Fulvias, and all my Fulvias have very very realiable, but my favourite for every day use is the 1600 HF lusso. This is a good compromise car, not as quick or twitchy as the 1.6HF, but considerably faster than the 1300s. It has a heater that works very well, and even the windscreen wipers are passable. On series 1 cars, the wipers and heaters are useless, such that they are not practical every day cars. Fine for a summers day, but thats it. I have driven various contemporary Alfas, but not owned one. I think that on a model for model basis, the Fulvia is a slightly quicker car, on twisty give and take roads. The 1750 Alfa engine is gem (in my opinion it is the best of their model line up) and the gearbox on the Alfa is also very good. Build quality on series 1 Fulvias is better than on the Alfa, but the Alfa is probably a slightly prettier car. Certainly the Alfa Zagato is far prettier than the Fulvia Sport Zagato. But the sound of the Fulvia (my 1.6HF is open carbs with a full group IV manifold and exhaust, which strangely enough the piping is incredibly small diametre considering it is a performance aid) is more distinctive, and better than the Alfa.

I own a berlina 2000 alfaholics suspension packed that drives like a dream. Nice engine with super handling. Owned a gtv bertone 2000 once but love the drive of the berlina more. My 1600 hf is another story. It feels more focused and sounds like a racecar with the 45 solex carbs. Build quality lancia is on another level but the alfa has so much charm. Both so different in looks but both so much fun. You cant go wrong with either alfa or lancia.

The Fulvia has a very lovely sound, due to its V4 configuration, twin carbs with unequal length inlet manifolds.

Poi ci sono certuni che vogliono smontare il motore di una Lancia Fulvia, e montarne uno completamente elettrico....Il sound di una Lancia così è Musica, non si può paragonare al rumore di una lavatrice o di un frullatore....
