After starting up the engine for the first time after replacing the rear main seal I was unfortunately greeted with the worst sound. Seems to be coming from the front of the engine. I dive in and try to diagnose the issue.
Please if you have any suggestions, feel free to add to the comments. I have never heard this before and just trying to follow the sound the best I can.
Cheers

You did a good job diagnosing issue. Replacing the harmonic balancer seems to be the smart thing to do. The rubber in it is supposed to absorb vibration from the engine. It doesn't seem to be doing that very well any longer. Besides, the more vibration your engine has, the faster it is going to wear out. Replacing the part is cheap insurance against vibrating your engine to death. Good Luck!

When you last installed the harmonic balancer, in the previous video, were the timing cover bolts already tightened? Generally you’re supposed to have the bolts loose while you install the balancer, so that it self centers in the seal and the timing cover itself centers around the seal, and the harmonic balancer. if the play in the bolt holes is enough that your timing cover is slightly off center relative to the crank snout, you might see the problems that you’re seeing.

The cover was fully tightened down. The balancer was the last thing to go on. It sounds like you're recommending the cover first, not tight, install balancer, rotate the engine a few times, tighten the cover, and install the water pump. Thank you.

Yes. Make sure the two oil pan bolts that thread into the timing cover are also slightly loosened. I don’t have my service manual here, but I recall the suggestion was finger tight on the bolts so that the cover can still float a little bit as the balancer is installed.

Ok, the first thing I see you did, you avoid the obvious actions. The balancer HAS to come off!!!!! Stop trying to get out of doing the needed work. The cover you found is where the noise is coming from. Get it pulled back so you can get rid of the noise. I agree, its anmoying

Agreed, I had feeling that was the end game, I suppose I was hoping for a miracle.
