Hang in there, you almost got it. Sounded like it was getting quieter towards the end. Maybe lifters.

i get the same sound on my 70 318 when i change the oil and dont fill the oil filter first ......and when i get oil pressure it goes away , maybe that info can help you out a bit

That is interesting, if I remember correctly when I pulled the oil filter this time I just put it on the bench, and then reinstalled without topping it off. Maybe that had something to do with it.
