Even before Mount's arrival, Herm Gilliam put excitement into Purdue basketball.

...when i was a kid and asked my dad who the best shooter he's ever seen is, he said "Rick Mount"

Nope Pistol Pete was. What people don't know is Pete only got to play 3 years . Freshmen had to warm the bench back then

@@cliffordyawn2696 Interesting. Considering Maravich shot 43.8% for his college career and 77.5% from the line compared to Mount’s 48.3% and 84.3% FT. Being a gun for your father doesn’t necessarily make you a great shooter. Rather, a volume shooter for a bad team.

The Pistol wad the first million dollar contract player in 1970 and Mount was the second in 1971. Google has it bassackwards showing Mount first.

I wonder how many points Mount and Maravich could have scored if freshmen could play on the varsity then or if they had had the three point shot?

Not putting Pete down as he proved, when healthy, he could drive NBA teams nuts but a flip side to your argument is that he played in the all white SEC of that era. Wonder what his numbers would have been in an integrated conference.

@@carseye1219 Pete led the predominantly black NBA in scoring in 1977. He would’ve scored just fine in an integrated conference .

Pete was and is one of the greatest of all time. The color of a person's skin shouldn't determine his or her place and accomplishments in life. Black, brown or white all people should be celebrated when they do something great especially when it has never been seen or done before.

Mount averaged 17 points per game in the NBA. The Pistol averaged 24 points per game.

Mount never played in the NBA. He averaged 17 ppg only once in the ABA.

Great pass at 7:11 by Gilliam? Or Weatherford? Whoever, a sensational pass from out high.

Another one, by 45 at 8:57.

These both assists are made by Larry Weatherford with number 45. Herm Gilliam had number 30 and he had only one wrist band on the left hand.

Great players like Mount and Maravich show up a lot in sports these days because liberal parents encourage equality, letting the boys learn from the fundamentally sound girls game.

Nonsensical statement. There is nothing about men's basketball at any level that resembles the boring, below the rim women's game.

@@guyjojay I was counter trolling. Some right wing loudmouth had posted that guys like Mount and Maravich were only good because it was before title 9 and women's sports.
