What do I really need to say about this car? Not much. I think most people already know what a monster it is. Probably one of the most, or THE most iconic American muscle cars. Of course, it's a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 450 horsepower LS6. With that 450 horsepower you get just a lowly 500 lb-ft of torque (yes, I'm joking). These cars just had it all. Power, style, and they were great drivers. That's probably why they sell for such ridiculous prices. The LS6 equipped vehicles weren't overly rare, you can always find a few for sale at any given time, but when it comes to auctions people go crazy for them. If the new owner wants to give it to me I'll gladly take it.

Chevelle's are sweet and 70 is also my favorite year as well, but they're not the king of muscle and Mopars almost always bring the most at high-end auctions. Speaking of auctions, we will be going to the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson this weekend and should be another great showing as we attend every year and is always a blast

@@CarsAndZebras yeah it's auction central around here this time of year, and Bonhams as well as Russo & Steele are also running theirs this week. Along with 5 or 6 other smaller ones that are mostly exotics and high-end 1 million + auctions, but we just go to the B-J and is so massive that it's enough for us. Mecum's was here for the first time last yr, but they do theirs in March separate from the others at Cardinals stadium in Glendale.The car scene here is incredible, and there's hot machines everywhere during the winter months. Thx for the Post. I owned and restored a ‘70 SS 454, (‘87-‘95). The Build Sheet showed a 12/12/69 build date. Not until I tried to sell it did I understand all of the incorrect parts mine had. Wrong Brake Booster, replacement hood and incorrect wiper motor. I was later vindicated on the Single Fuel Line to the Fuel Pump. Even the early build date was argued. Regardless, I invested $44,500 over the 7 years I owned it, only driving it 75 miles after completion. Baby #2 wad on her way, which was the only reason it did get completed, meeting one person at Carlisle who purchased it 2 weeks later for $30,800. My understanding was that the LS6 was offered after the Brochures were printed or “during” the production year. I also made the mistake of installing “SS” emblems on the Door Panels. Turns out the “Malibu” was legit. Lastly, I mailed a Camera down to Ausleys Chevelle Parts in Greensboro, NC. They were kind enough to take photos of their two low mileage LS-6 Cars, then mailed them back. At the time, the Gobi Beige example had 5038 miles and the Cranberry Red had approximately 4600. COWL GRILLES NEVER CAME ON ANY 70 CHEVELLE and seeing them installed on today’s “Restored” Cars sickens me, lol!

Compared to what some new cars sell for the price doesn't seem excessive. A 454 with a 6500 redline is damn impressive. With 331 gears this car has a pretty high top speed. CHP 440s may have had a problem catching these.
@jasonshawver7227
@jasonshawver7227 4 жыл бұрын
I agree! Yes, I’d pay maybe.....2 reasons: 1) I liked the comment you made regarding a comparison to prices for modern cars. We don’t look at people being crazy for spending $80-$90k (or more) for loaded Tahoe’s or Escalades (I don’t think twice when I see one in the neighborhood)......or Hellcat Redeyes, Demons, z06/zr1 vettes, etc. Right? 2) And the most important reason-economics being the cost of a great restoration (depending on how good/complete the car was to start). Example-I’m in the process of restoring a 63 split window. I’ve already collected over $20k in parts, will have $20 to START in body/paint (who knows what more when the car is taken down, I know it was hit in the left front at least once), and then perhaps $10k or more in drivetrain rebuild. And that’s neglecting the original price of the car, and the fact I pulled the body off and stripped the chassis myself, and am rebuilding the rolling chassis myself. All it is is math.....
@jasonshawver7227
@jasonshawver7227 4 жыл бұрын
As another example of the math.....I was told by my restoration shop, granted being a high end NCRS well known shop......if I were to just drop a car off with them, typically Reston START at $80k and go from there.....

Regarding the LS6 not being listed in the brochures, could be one of two reasons (if not both): 1) if I recall correctly, the LS6 was a mid year introduction, along with a mid year cancellation of the L78 396. Perhaps the sales info was published before the LS6s official introduction. 2) GM was the last company to still abide by the 1957 AMA racing ban (except for “wink wink” special projects going out the back door. Perhaps upper management didn’t want to publicize packages like this too much (similar example being the L88 corvettes being rated at “only” 430hp versus an L71 tripower at 435? Come on.....a 427 with 12.5 compression, nasty cam not making more than 1hp/CI? And by the way, L88s had no radio or heater? They knew they were selling race cars, but management didn’t want to know it) My vote is reason 1 Correct me if I’m wrong on any of this.....
