1970 Mk3 Classic Mini Shell Restoration Part 1

This is the start of a complete restoration on a Mk 3 mini shell when the metalwork is finished it will be sold as a project for someone to reassemble in their own time. The metalwork can be a stumbling point when restoring a car so after all the work is done it will be effectively a new shell.

Brendan‘ I wold guess around 50% of the shell will be renewed 🤔 I hope it will get some new viewers in as it‘s a very extensive build. Cheers Dave

@@ClassicCarCave I’m sure you’ll have fun doing it. Not many would take on a project like this. We’ve seen you guys work on the fabrication whether the Citroen or the convertible Mini so we know you’ve the tools, the skill set so we can sit back and watch this one get the Classic Car Cave treatment. Are you just sorting the bodywork or painting and refitting the interior too?

Being a Mk3 shell and the X over from Mk 1 & 2 shells you can't buy them off the shelf as it were! Maybe custom made I'm not sure 🤔 We will only rebuild the shell as most people shy away from body repairs for different reasons. The idea is to sell it as a build it yourself project. Cheers Dave

It will be restored back to original but I will only restore the shell and sell it on as a project for someone to build themseleves. Cheers Dave

Dave - you really pick up some basket cases, havi said that, it make excellent viewing and learning. Excellent advise with the curve panel joins for stress relief... Quick Question - would it have been better to get a new shell ??

Raj, True 🤣😂and Thanks 😉 A new shell is around 11,000 pounds and TBH the shut lines are not 100% plus where is the fun in buying a new shell when restoring one is much more of a challenge🤔🤪🤨🤣 I will offer the finished rolling shell in white for half the new shell price. Cheers Dave

John, There is a lot of metalwork to cut out and lots of new panels to weld back in. I will do the metalwork and then sell it as a project hopefully someone will want to take on the rebuild with an almost new shell to start as a good base. Cheers Dave
