This clean 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible is a mild restomod built to drive. It came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop wearing a very nice restoration, but is not 100% stock underneath.
This “Goldsmobile” is wearing a 442-themed black stripe over shimmering gold paint, and it breathes through an original fiberglass Oldsmobile W25 Outside Air Induction hood complete with chrome locks. Body colored D35 Sports mirrors and Super Stock 1 wheels add to the speedy styling.
The owner wanted better drivability and throttle response, so he tasked the V8 crew with installing a Holley Sniper EFI system on top of the built 455 Olds V8. The Sniper EFI system has a Quadrajet throttle pattern, so it bolted onto the stock intake manifold with no mods required. Original Olds W-30 455s made 370 HP and 500 pounds of torque, but this one is overboard forty-thousandths to 468 cubes, and has a performance cam and a few other performance goodies in a stock appearing envelope.
The gold is balanced with a matching bucket seat and console interior under a black convertible top. Other cool interior details include a tilt column topped with a rallye steering wheel, a tic-toc-tach, and the Hurst Dual-Gate automatic shifter controlling the Turbo 400 transmission. Air conditioning keeps the driver cool when it’s too hot to drop the top.
These cars are great drivers, and this one rides on a performance suspension including front and rear sway bars, shocks, and a limited slip rear axle. The parts are akin to the FE2 suspension package found on other Oldsmobile W-Machines, and it is comfortable and compliant on the road. Power steering and power assisted front disc brakes make it easy to drive. Sounds are courtesy of an original in-dash AM / FMradio, and 468 cubes of Olds thunder blasting out of dual trumpet-tipped exhaust out back.

Love the car! Whenever I see these old Cutlasses that one Kathy Mattea song starts playing in the back of my mind. They really do sound like airplanes!

1:12 Me and every other '70 Cutlass owner cracked their skull on that hood 'tooth' every time we wrenched. Oldsmobile changed the design for 1971 to prevent ER visits for scalp stitches.

Think I'd get a pillow or cushion to hang on there. Interestingly enough, the '67 and '68 Cougar had a split grill and no tooth. '69 had a flat grill, but they went back to the split grill in '70 - and with that dang snaggletooth...

Wow rare SX option W-32 only found on a cutlass supreme body. I had a rare SX when I was in high school it was a cutlass supreme body. Vinyl top delete manual brakes. Forsed air hood. 330 posi. 400 trans bucket seats counsel shift. Sport steering wheel & gauges tic tok tech. I sold it in the early 90s to finance a pole barn. Biggest mistake of my life. I found out later only about 100 where Built. 🤣

Nice Cutlass. It is not a Cutlass SX. I am going to say the tic toc tac and the his and her shifter were added when the car was repainted. The front end of this car was replaced with later model fenders also

Somehow this ended up in my feed again . I watched it again 1:35 is a embarrassment to Dr. Olds. You guys added a sniper and it launched like a dud . Even if the driver didn't floor it you can hear the bog in the engine. The 455 runs best with a 750 double pumper with mechanical secondaries .

I was wondering what I could do to increase performance on my Road hugging 2017 Chevrolet Impala LT 4 Cyl 2.5 Litre with 196HP.. Now, before you go knocking this power plant to shreads. Remember the late 1970’s V8’s were making no more than 130-200 HP and only the Biggest Blocks were producing the close to 200hp. Sucked down a tank of gas every other day and you were boo’d at by Joe Public calling you a “GAS HOG” How about an Impala that gets close to 40MPG on my weekly 20 mile round trip out of State and back. 23MPG around town? And when I mash the throttle she moves. So you think maybe a new air filter will send her flying with more power? I have 11K on the odometer. Covid cut my traveling.
