@@V8TV Thanks very much; I have a ton of RFI in my datascans and my car is stalling on deceleration. I am going to try all your suggestions. I had not thought of many of them.

Absolutely fantastic restoration of an iconic GTO. Awesome work from all involved in this amazing build. I would be absolutely over the moon to own a vehicle like this. Would be interesting to know why the judges didn’t score the car 1000 out of 1000, a bit tough I feel but a fantastic result all the same❤

David , I met your dad when he first got this car and brought it to Houston. The stories of this car are many and Billy Ray was one of the finest people I ever met. Your dad and this car started what is now going on a 3rd generation of racers in my family that most likely would of never happened if not for your dad and this car. My family now builds some of the best drag race cars in the country. I want my nephews to see and know this story because they don’t know it all started the night I met Billy Ray. Not only that he changed the course of my life in a extreme positive way. Better friend I’ve never had. He showed it to me when it was in a thousand pieces and I thought it will never be back together. I was so excited when I saw this last night. If that car could talk the amazing stories it could tell. It is such a unique car and it looks identical in every way as it did the first time I saw it. This car is what street racers refer to as a sleeper. Meaning the car was way faster than most thought it would be by the appearance. It was a simple clean functional car but didn’t look like it would be fast as it was. I met him on a road called Holly Hall which is near the Astrodome in Houston and where a lot of street racing happened back in 1968. Every time he called me first thing he would say let’s go to Holly Hall then he would laugh. I could go on for hours with all the fun and great times. Excellent restoration those guys did a incredible job.

My dad had a black 1960 Starliner when I was born in 1963. In 1966, he bought a 1966 Country Sedan station wagon and drove it to work. Mom hauled us seven kids around in the Starliner. Dad sold it in 1969 when my brother’s foot went through the rusted floorboards. He traded it for a baby blue 1969 Ford Fairlane 2-DR coupe.

I want to swap my dad's 62, a lot of sentimental value but it needs new running gear unless it's gonna sit. IDK what my chassis options really are, but coyote would be preferable. Maybe something like this makes more monetary sense?

Wrong about the 4 bolt mains. 67 Z28s had a small journal crank with 2 bolt mains, 68 Z28s had a stronger large journal crank with again 2 bolt mains. 69 Z28s had large journal crank and 4 bolt mains. The specs submitted to SCCA for the 302 were actually about 550 HP in race trim. I have all the SCCA specs somewhere. Cowl induction hood was an option for 1969 only. You could also get a cold air package for all 3 years drawing air from the windshield cowl panel.

I wonder if you had problems putting the windshield back in? The spacing on that lower channel looked off by an inch or more
@V8TV
@V8TV 12 күн бұрын
Not sure how it appears in the video, but we made sure the lower channel fit the same as the original. The windshield and all the trim fit properly. You can see more detail in the photo gallery on this car here: v8speedshop.com/1968-oldsmobile-442-dr/ Thanks!

Talking about shielding?? .. I wonder if grounding straps on the hood, inner fenders, and even the fenders and air cleaner? would help? .. I know when I was in the Army the old MB Jeeps, and Dude and a Halfs, were BIG on grounding straps! They were everywhere, and wen we fitted the old radios to a "new" Jeep, replacing all the grounding straps, was standard procedure.
