I graduated from high school in June, 1962, just short of my 18th birthday. I was there on a daily basis for the whole muscle car era, beginning to end. I watch videos like this, and its like these cars are at the local Steak 'n Shake or Wild's Palace of Poison on a Friday or Saturday night. My old 1956 Chrysler Windsor 4dr ht that my dad bought for me knew the path over to Alton Dragway by heart, and its where I spent my Sundays (or Friday nights during the heat of the summer). One of my buddies who was a year ahead of me in school bought a new1963 1/2 Ford fastback with dual quad 427 that we would drive around with. I personally ran into a deal in 1967 of taking over payments on a 1966 Ford Fairlane 2drht with the factory 427 package, 4-spd and fiberglass lift-off hood, and the payments were $106 per month. Insurance was another $75 per month. MoPar hemis were thick as weeds, Chevy 409s and then 427s, everybody was in the game. Nick, I thank you more than you would know for your work on preserving these cars. Your videos are the highlights of my week.

I worked at a shop that had many mopar customers amongst our many other customers and accounts. I was on a test drive in a 70 blue 440 automatic roadrunner. I watched it turn 5000 original miles on the odometer. It was my dream job. Had it for almost 20 years. Blessed to have test driven every muscle car i saw and ised to dream about when i was little. Cause i got hired there.

That takes me back to 1978 when a friend and I restored a 1970 Roadrunner 383 Magnum hard top. A shotgun had gone off in the trunk when the previous owner had it so we had to do a quarter panel. The outer rockers were rusted out so we welded in all new metal. The engine was built by a local machinist/engine builder and dynoed at 436hp and 423lb/ft of torque. We took it on a shakedown through Montana (no speed limit back then). We painted it rootbeer brown. Good times!

Nick, I was watching some of your vids from a couple years ago. You were teaching a young man how to install freeze plugs. You mentioned how difficult it was to put them in the back of the heads with the engine installed. Next time, get a large f-clamp, commonly used in woodworking. Place the shellac covered plug and the driving socket at the hole, the stationary jaw of the f-clamp behind that, place the jaw that has the screw clamp in it to the same spot on the front of the cylinder. Screw the handle tight enough to drive the freeze plug in. It will take a large and strong clamp to work. I welded a 1/2 square from a damaged ratchet to the dedicated clamp to hold the socket. This made it possible to do it without helping hands. Paid for itself with the first use. I was a Chevy dealership mechanic who drove a 1969 Formula S 340 4-Speed Barracuda to work. Chrome headers came shipped in the truck, or so I was told when I bought it in 1978. Thanks, 354Larry

My brother build a 72 Nova SS with a NASTY 427 and 5 speed standard. I asked him recently if he had top-ended the car - to find the top speed. His response was, "no, because the speedo only goes to 160 (kh/h, 100 mph). Besides, with a car like this it's not about how fast it goes but how VIOLENTLY you get there!" I think Nick subscribes to the same philosophy.
