Here's an unusual electric powered sweeper from the late 70s that I remember seeing in mail order catalogues for several years, though until now, I had never seen one in real life.
The first Argos catalogue I can find this electric sweeper is dates from Spring 1978 and shared the floor care pages with the Electrolux 502 and 170, plus the Hoover Starlight, Ranger Senior and Constellation. Priced at £16.95 compared to £49.95 for the Hoover Junior, this electric sweeper was intended to replace a manual carpet sweeper, rather than as a replacement for a vacuum cleaner.
This lightweight sweeper performed far better than I expected with its quiet motor and wooden brush roll.

Amazing. Goes to show why upright vacuums with good agitator brushes do such a good job even on machines that don't have a lot of suction.

I do remember seeing these in home shopping catlogues in the 80s. Such a simple yet effective machine. I wonder how many people dismissed these, not expecting them to be effective but would have bought one if they had seen how well they work in a video like this?

That would make a great powerhead for a cylinder cleaner with a bit of modification

Very impressive, was not expecting that. You can still buy electric sweepers (now cordless), including Vileda would be interesting to see how the modern ones compare with these classics. Perhaps do a "sweep-off" test. These are such handy little devices. Nice video demo.

What a fun little sweeper. Would be really fun to see that side by side with Gtech AirRam 2. I bet they would be very comparable.

Wow, I’m really surprised how well that performed. It does make you wonder how much is really down to the brush for an effective clean, and not necessarily the vacuum.

Youll find that the smaller particles will have been beaten down into the carpet pile. Id be interested to see a Sebo felix go over it again to see what it pulls back out of the pile.

Hiya Rodger long time fan of the channel. I'm in shock it did so well. Its a plucky little thing isn't it. Maybe you could get onto somebody to make an updated version of this. They could call it the Rodge Sweeper 2021. Adorable little thing. I've fallen in love with a carpet sweeper my Dyson V7 is looking worried lol. Keep up the great work xxx

I had no idea there were electric sweepers! I remember plenty of non-electric ones from school when I was little and my dad even had one.

I would buy a corded carpet sweeper lol. Sure, you're limited by the length of the cord, but you won't have to worry about having to recharge the sweeper.

Hi Roger! I love your videos. Have you ever tested out a Hoover Convertible? They're like the American version of the Hoover Senior, only more colorful and lighter. You should try one out! I was actually looking to purchase one myself to add to my collection lol. They're all over eBay. Would love to see a video on one of those old girls!

I couldn’t help but notice, when you had the camera on the floor, that it looks like it spits out dirt on the front of the cover. Other than that, pretty cool machine.

It’s crazy that they used to make these back in the day and now they’re so cheap and cordless and the same thing. Although of course the brush roll would have been stronger on these
