I know NOTHING about LED watches. A great looking 1970's Trafalgar LED which developed a fault about 40 years ago. I put in fresh batteries and find the fault. Not sure what has failed.

Boy! The feeling you get when you finally get the right batteries, and after a few tries, those red lights come on. It's like a kid waking up on Christmas morning. I just put the batteries in my watch correctly, and those lights on my Texas instruments watch came on. 🥳🥳🥳 🎇 🎇 🎆🎆

Very nice watch. I remember getting a National Semiconductor LED watch back in, oh, about 1976 (I was 11 then). And I remember clearly that the batteries would last about a couple of months only. And I also remember that the LED display failed pretty early on, with segments dying out one after the other (outside the 90-day warranty of course). Early LED display manufacturing was problematic for companies. And they tried several different methods until they could get relatively high yields and long term reliability. Texas Instruments, along with Hewlett Packard, were the first to finally get higher quality standards, just before that kind of power-hungry display was replaced by LCD. Great review, thanks for sharing. Too bad it failed.

Thanks Alain. Yes many early LED watches failed. Pity as the designs were really good.

Nice to see this movie! I have the same watch in a silver "bracelet" and bought it in the seventies. It was the brand "Sicura" but definitely the same watch (als the inside is the same) Mine also got broke a few years later, but i'm also looking to fix it. The outside conditions are very good and also complete with the box... I would love to be able to get a new unit to replace the inside.

Greetings, it is unfortunate that you do not pass on the jolly by helping others with their watch... Going through stuffs, I came across a pristine LED watch with a numbers pencil note written on a yellowish washed out tag. This watch came, with many other boxes, from a Pawnshop, that was about to be thrown away in the mid-90s. I recently went through my storage, found it and another one lady size which requires two different batteries... 1 medium small, the other small. The gents one is pristine, no scratch, I manged to find the proper batteries and she led-up. All digits reading OK, I can read 1:0 then, MO then, 2 However, I can't set the time and the date on it. The set button doesn't give any function. Also, she lights up, but then needs a cooling period to light up again. Real sad, she is pristine, but she half works. I have removed the batteries, to make sure they don't go bad, and put it back in the box, and it's going to be dumped since I don't have anyone after me. Cheers

Good old woolies. Yeah the battery life was a real issue back then as the mercury batteries were not cheap. Different story now with silver oxide as they are not expensive.

Nice watch.You may have rectified this by now but I think you set the time on what should have been the day date part.

Frozen with one digit showing bright, that's very likey the quartz crystal timebase isn't oscillating. I had one do that, and it was the crystal itself failed.

Just look on ebay for a beaten up version with same module working. Swap them out. How long it will last who knows LOL. Ive one not same model but same make how did you find which batteries these take? Cheers

you need to test your reed switches. each button has a reed switch associated with it. sometimes they go bad and need to be replaced. Also, you need to test a button. Each button has a magnet inside and when you press the button it becomes magnetic. Good luck
@marcse7en9 ай бұрын
They're not reed switches. That would be too elaborate and expensive to manufacture. They're just normal contacts.

Wow, it works. I am impressed. It just needed new batteries. Too bad the fault is still there. I have an old digital Seiko watch that died and I've always wanted to get it working again. It is well beyond my skill level for sure.

Yes the fault is still there. Not much i can do other than perhaps try a new crystal.

I have a Sears vintage 1970's LED watch. The display works, settings work, time runs , at a glance the watch appears to be working perfectly. However the watch gains hours in a day. It's running too fast. I'm no watch expert what could be the problem? Help would appreciated thank you

The circuitry from the quartz modulator isn’t working - quartz vibrates at a very precise frequency at a very consistent rate and used to keep accurate time.
@robmetcalf887822 күн бұрын
The oring inside wasnt original. Secondly the issue is a bad quartz tube. Replacing the quartz should fix the issue. Those Motorola quartz cans were very prone to failures.

I have got one the same works well but different strap 😁 it was my dads the strap broke so we put different one on
@marcse7en9 ай бұрын
The watch did not use mercury batteries. The batteries may contain mercury (modern ones don't), but they would've been Silver Oxide batteries. The date of manufacture will be printed on the chip. I saw one on KZfaq that said 7542, which is the 42nd week of 1975. This dating convention is common on microchips. My watch flickered like that. After cleaning the battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol, it worked perfectly. I believe the lower button is date and seconds. Error code? ... They WEREN'T that advanced in the 70s! 🤣 Try cleaning the battery contacts.

Hi. As far as iam aware there are no new modules available which fit the watch. I ve only seen non working watches come up on Ebay also.

These Mostec movements were Swiss and much better than the cheap stuff coming in from Hong Kong. The issue will be a dirty contact between the push setter and its contact on the movement board. The watch never had mercury batteries...it was always the 357. Mercury batteries were normally 1.35v, so not enough power.
@marcse7en9 ай бұрын
Mostek modules, not movements. There's no moving parts!
@binkyboobosh19 ай бұрын
@@marcse7en ..movement is a generic term for watch time keeping applications, mechanical or otherwise. ie..the 'movement of time'...
