It's indeed remarkable when you recall that some of these winged warriors languished at dealerships until 1972 before being purchased, because they were too radical looking for some people when they were introduced. Some were likely sold off at discount prices by that time. And just look at their values now.

I don't imagine any of the drivers on the teams with these cars, did any "bumping" from behind, with that plastic nose. Don't remember any of them falling off during the races either. Thanks MCC
@Moparmatty Жыл бұрын
The original noses aren't plastic. They a We're made from steel.

You could always carfax it and find out.😂

My dad who was a salesman for Plymouth said they could not sell the damn cars cause most people could not afford the insurance on them.
@musclecarcampy99229 ай бұрын
You could say that about all muscle cars in 1970. That is one reason sales were so poor of all cars in that segment in 1970.

Did Dan paint the nose rather than used the repro nose decals? They look very shiny.

Nice story. Didn't know the two cars where so different.

Could swear I saw sequential turn signals on there. That doesn't sound like Plymouth...

Good catch. Owner added LED taillights for better visibility.

I saw a story years ago about a "roadrunner" that was found in a junkyard. Had a '70 front end and all. But it had the rear window plug and all the other superbird signs minus the wing. It still had a fender tag and was an actual superbird that somewhere along the line had been converted. I assume it was wrecked and a '70 front end was thrown on.

years ago,a yellow superbird was wrecked at the moparnationals,went head on into a phone pole. i wonder if this is the same one.

Sorry, you're wrong. *I* bought a Superbird new from a dealership that had removed the wing. They had it and I made them reinstall it, but it DEFINITELY didn't have it installed when I first saw the car.
@musclecarcampy9922 Жыл бұрын
The statement was they were converted to regular Road Runners (including the nose), which I was not the case with your car. Just curious: What did they do with the mounting holes on the trunk?

Also, can you please show me a picture or paperwork to back this up? I have never seen anything like that.

While yes petty did indeed win 18 races driving plymouths in 1970 only five of those wins came in a superbird.

Coronet doors!

The 70 Roadrunner and 70 Coronet doors are very similar, but they didn't source Coronet doors for these cars.
@AMCmachine Жыл бұрын
@@mygmailaccount5393 Maybe I was thinking of Coronet fenders instead....I know I read it somewhere that they used something from the '70 Coronets.

I still like the Talledega better. They are more down to earth. Don’t get me wrong, I helped restore 1 car , and they are really special. I love Fords Talledega, more understated, they did well too. It’s sad to see what NASCAR has become.
@musclecarcampy9922 Жыл бұрын
The Talladega was positively normal looking!

Were there any GM products in Stock car racing back then? It seems it was always a Ford & Mopar battle. That must have been dark times for GM. 😢😂

I've had two Superbirds. One was a bench seat 4 speed car, but the other was an automatic on the column with a bench seat.
