Your comments about the rear window plug have me curious. I always thought the Daytona was built on the Charger 500, which I thought was built in the factory. As such, the quality fit and finish of the roof around the window and trunk would be explained. But now it sounds like that Creative Industries did the window modifications to factory R/T models. What can you add to that?
@Nonerequired
@Nonerequired 2 жыл бұрын
Creative Industries built the Charger Daytona's at a facility that was previously Van Dyke Dodge in Warren Michigan on Van Dyke Ave., just south of Stephens Rd. (9 1/2 mile). I spent a lot of time as a kid hanging around outside the fence watching them put those cars together.

Hi Bob, 05 May 2023. Thought we'd take the time to comment on your site and Hemi Daytona. It's a joy to see and hear the old gal running again and looking fantastic. We still miss her but know she has a great new parent. She had us for 48 years; it was a great honor to have her own us. To those of you that would like to have a Daytona, when you get one you will never own it, it will own you. That's just the way it is. Take Care Bob, give the old gal a few love pats for us. Best Always Dena and Christine PS: Dena ordered a new Mustang "Dark Horse" in Race Red, w/6-spd Race Ready. She received her Vin a couple days ago; it's scheduled for June production; assuming it'll arrive early July 2023.

When talking about the window plug on the Daytona, I heard it was common practice for Creative Industries to just break the factory glass and put the plug in. Apparently there is a fair bit of evidence through restorations of the factory glass being found. I think that’s hilarious😂

I had a friend that obtained a very rusted 1969 Daytona Hemi car. Because houses here have lots that are very small we cannot keep a rusty body lying around so he parted the car out and just kept what he could. The rest of the car was scrapped. I, myself, had done the same thing to many muscle cars. Many of which were just as rare. Part of history that will never come back. Graveyard cars had an episode where Mark turned away a customer with a similar Hemi Daytona that was, at the time, beyond restoration.

11:33 You can plainly see that on the Dodge Charger Daytona the wing is mounted further inboard on the tops of the fenders than on the Plymouth Superbird. Could you please discuss this and do you know the reasons why? It might be a good idea if you could measure the width of the vertical blades on each car. Great video by the way!
@numberoftheday
@numberoftheday 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's so much that the wings are mounted further forward, it's more related to the Roadrunner having a longer truck and rear overhang than the Charger. So the Superbird has more body behind the wing than the Daytona does.
@davidgold5961
@davidgold5961 2 жыл бұрын
@@numberoftheday Thanks for your comment. My assertion is not the difference in fore and aft measurements, it is that one car’s vertical wing supports are approximately 6 inches wider than the other. This is obvious when viewed from the rear.

Great video! I am very jealous about your Wing Cars collection! A difference you didnt mention is the wheelbase. The Superbird has 116.0" wheelbase, the Daytonas is longer at 117.0". But it appears to me that the Superbird has a longer nose. Do you know the overall lenght of both of these cars? Thera are also differences in the engines. The 1969 Daytonas 440 engine is called the "Magnum" and has 10.1 : 1 compression ratio, the 1970 Superbirds 440 engine is called the "Super Commando" and has a slightly lower compression ratio of 9.7 : 1. There is also a difference on the 426 Hemi as well. The 1969 Daytona has solid lifters, the 1970 Superbird has hydraulic ones. I know both were rated at the same, but I bet on a dyno the 1969 Daytonas engines would actually be a bit stronger.

I agree with you on leaving the purple paint and not restored back to the B5 blue. Per your history description, it was only B5 for a short time, less than a year? And it's been purple over 50 years. Leaving it purple is definitely a time capsule and more interesting and Conversation Piece. I don't think the purple paint devalues the car in anyway. In fact I think it increases the value cuz it's one-of-a-kind. It's an awesome looking piece of History car

Rumor has it that when NASCAR officials came to the assembly plant where the 69 Daytona's were at there were only 468, the cars at the front of the line, after being counted, were driven around the building and lined up at the rear of the line to give the appearance that the 500 car minimum production quota had been met. Perhaps both counts were true, buying Dodge more time to finish the remaining cars and getting that total production run to 505.

Both the Daytona and Superbird wings were 24" tall and were poured aluminum, but similarities end there. The Daytona wing's stabilizer (top bar) is 57 1/2" wide. The Daytona's vertical stabilizer (side bars) are 17 1/2" wide at the base. The Daytona vertical stabilizers are set in 3" from the side of the body and the rear edge of the top stabilizer is also a 3" set-in from the rear of the body.
