1971 Aston Martin DBS V8 | Driving The Last David Brown Aston Martin
Aston Martin DBS V8. The next Craig on Cars Special is exactly that - we get to have a close look at an early 1971 Aston Martin DBS V8 - one of only 95 made with a manual transmission and with the Bosch MFI system. The last true David Brown Aston Martin and a proper gentleman's of the day Grand Tourer, this Aston Martin DBS V8 is a truly special car, both in the way it drives and with its bold styling, designed to take Aston Martin into the future. It also features a 5.4 litre quad cam V8 engine, and with its factory sports exhaust boy does it sound amazing!
If you were lucky enough to own an Aston Martin DBS V8 when new then you had very much arrived in life - join me as we find out more about this fabulous car and encounter exactly what that ownership experience must have been like. Many thanks to the owner Steve for the opportunity to film and drive his amazing car.

I really enjoyed your video! I have owned a '76 V8 for 18 years now, and the love affair continues unabated... These old V8's are fabulous cars to drive and own. Many years ago I converted it to manual, and it transformed the car from a boulevard cruiser to a true GT. It's now a real pleasure to drive! And contrary to what many may think, once "sorted" these cars are surprisingly reliable. When my 18-year old daughter graduated from high school, I took her on a 3,500 mile road trip with no problem. On that trip, over remote mountain passes, she even learned to drive manual!

Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed watching. I felt very priveliged to experience one for just a short while, and sounds like you have a very similar experience and approach to your DBS ownership as Steve had with his. These cars deserve to be driven! Your roadtrip sounds like it was a real memory maker, and i hope to do something similar with my daughter one day in our own V8 GT cruiser, the BMW 8 series. Not quite as cool as your car though! Do you have any future plans with your car for the next 18 years? 😃

Beautiful and yes the colour is perfect for the car... i own a Series 3 with a manual box. I too remember the Persuaders and Lazenby as Bond in On her Majesty’s Secret Service this of course was a 6 cylinder vantage car as you failed to mention completely the V8 was not ready for the new body style following its baptism f fire and complete failure at the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hrs race. Thank the owner for sharing car and hıs thoughts on a beautiful car classic. The current cars agaın carry the DB monıker and Astons pay a fee to the legacy DB family for the privilege. Why because to many the DB is ymous wıth Astons. In my opinion understandable to thıoe who have not studied Astons for more than 10 mınutes and complete BS ın reality as Sır Davıd (John) Brown was only one stepping stone ın Astons history.

Ohh he's lived a life... And that was whilst at Uni,and being a junior doctor...hense his Aston V8 manual was old BUT a solid runner. Laters he grew too Porsche 911's, Audi Quattro's, Mercs,Opel's, Lancia's...so many fast cars... and always lethis kid brother (me) drive them anytime,anywhere...best part was he'd NEVER ask for his car back, he'd just say give it back when you're ready!!! As he had 2,3,4 cars at a time, and he used them as daily driver's , all if them. What a upbringing I had with my brother and it was he who 'showed me the light'... CARS (petrol only) I can't do diesel. . . 1 more thing, if one drives a big engine those who ever ask "you must hate the MPG"... they just don't " get it".
