The "Aurora" gave the starting shot for Lenin's October Revolution. The battleship first sailed under the Russian flag in tsarist times and under the Soviet flag after the victory of the communists in the revolution. In the period from 1903 to 1948, it saw action in the Russo-Japanese War, World War I and World War II. During the Leningrad Blockade by the Germans, the ship was heavily damaged and sunk in the harbor. Before the end of the war, the ship was raised. Today the "Aurora" is considered one of the landmarks of Petersburg. Since 1957 it can be visited as a museum.
