The circuit looked a lot wider in that era compared to now (especially from Ascari to Parabolica).

Fu il mio primo GP visto dal vero. Avevo 12 anni. il 25 aprile avevo visto la 1000 km. Era il primo anno con le chicanes (Che, infatti, si vede, sono "posticce"). Ickx, il mio beniamino, dominò fino al 46° giro, poi il motore si spense. Ero distrutto. Fittipaldi vinse e si laureò campione del mondo (in quel momento il più giovane ad esserci riuscito). Dopo la gara, raffreddatosi il pezzo dell'impianto elettrico (centralina?) che si era surriscaldato, i meccanici rimisero in moto la macchina e la riportarono ai box.... Il massimo della beffa.

There only seemed to be about three camera positions. No vision of the Curva Grande, the Della Roggia or the Lesmos. Lots of pictures of people looking at Stewart’s broken car though… Worth noting though was the start. As soon as the cars had cleared the start line, the marshals put in the Retofilio chicane.

Fun fact: this was the first race broadcast in Brazil on television - through Record network; the narrator was "the Baron" Wilson Fittipaldi, Emerson's father.

The layout seemed to change quite often. There seems to be 1000 ways to lay that course out. Pretty cool!

sensacionais imagens... Dá pra ver trechos de video tape da corrida que a gente só viu em fotos ou filminhos bem ruins ... Um grande momento da história do automobilismo brasileiro, onde na verdade tudo começou (senna, Piquet, Massa, Barrichello surgiram por causa disso aí)

The cars then still looked pretty fast on the straights but in the corners they look slow compared to today's F1 cars.

@Tifosi2009GP Oh yeh my mistake, Stewart is on the 2nd row. Quite strange though I think missing the chicane like that. The Marshalls erect some sort of barrier quite quickly across that straight-on part of the track. Awesome upload anyway, I wish I was alive at the time to see this era of F1 for real.

Ickx had a large lead and dropped out near the end with an electrical fault, he had just won at the Nurburgring, the 312 B2 was much better than its results indicated, should have won the Championship in 70, 71 and 72!

Really? In 70 reliability cost Ickx dear. In 71 & 72 success was sporadic and the car looked to be falling behind the competition. I'll give you 70 at a push, but no more than that.

The Tyrell and the Lotus both had Ferrari covered during those years. Some tracks favoured the 12 cylinder Ferrari...not enough.

A procedure I think should be revived.. Warm up is only a few hundred meters, so that drivers will stay more focused on lap 1

il 1972 fu il primo anno in cui introdussero le varianti a Monza prima c'era il "gioco delle scie" che consentiva alle auto di rimanere in gruppo ed il risultato finale era deciso all'ultimo giro (non male)

Si potrebbe rifare l'anello , senza tribune ( per la questione che l'autodromo è all'interno di un parco ) , con pendenze decisamente inferiori e ripristinare la 10 km .

Okay I totally don't get the start. Just after the race begins you see Jackie Stewart lead them away, on the next shot the field is all flying straight on through the Rettifilo chicane just before you see Jackie Stewart retiring with a clutch problem. Yet shortly after that the field takes the chicane properly, as in a Left - Right chicane. Did they skip through the chicane for the starts and then use it for the rest of the race?

I know this is 11 years later, but if you or anyone else is still wondering, the marshals built the chicane quickly at the start after all drivers went by. I've seen different footage from the main straight where you can see them putting the boards and signs onto the track. Quite crazy when you think about it :D

Although the word "safety" had been invented by 1972, it apparently wasn't in common use. They probably lost more track workers and marshals than drivers.

Canuck Fundy All good reasons that, on behalf of his fellow racers, Jackie Stewart cantankerously argued for better safety during the seventies and eighties.
