So didn't I. My first bike as a matter of fact. Bought it for about $500 from someone who thought the clutch was destroyed and the crankshaft leaking. All it needed was the clutch pushrod and seal. I must have put at least 60K miles on it after that. I currently have a '76 GT 550. But I think the '73 like you see here with its carbs and airbox was the better bike. Certainly sounded better.

Revving from a stand still, have some mercy on the old girl.!!!!
Wish I could jump right on top of her and have someone take the lead as interpreter and guide for a night of bar crawling through the the roadhouses of Japan. I'd promise to do the same back here in New England.

Four exhaust pipes for a three cyl. engine. Was there a technical reason for that or was it just a cosmetic item ?

Improve the exhaust and cool the center cylinder・・・・I think
@INDIGOBLUE5553 жыл бұрын
@@hawghouse2455 That may be, however the engine was fitted with the Ram Air system (similarly to the 380) to improve air cooling stream....so what about Suzuki focusing on a just mere cosmetic effect on customers.That could sound weird enough though :-) :-) A useless exhaust pipe means some additional weight too... Either way I'll be looking for some infos on the internet.

@@hawghouse2455 I just got an info as a confirmation that Suzuki splitted the center pipe for cosmetic purpose. Their goal was offering a better balanced visual appearance sporting twin pipes on both sides. Adding some weight as well....

The machined front disc brake might be a bit of a giveaway that at least some restoration work might have been done to this bike. But my guess is that very little needed to be done. It looks just about showroom and sounds as a GT 550 with the VM style carbs should. I currently have a '76 that I'm performing some maintenance on, as well as a '74 that I'll be restoring. Love seeing bikes like these kept as close to original condition as possible. Sometimes I think that there ought to be a law preventing "Monster Garage Mechanics" from transforming classic bikes into cafe racers and whatnot.
