My family and I did our 65' Owens total restoration. I must say you and yours have done a Masters restoration on your Uniflite. Congratulations are applied to all who worked on this project. Excellence in everything you did. You brought a tear to my eye in my rembering the days. Thank you. Now go enjoy.

Hi James. Thanks so much for the kind words. It was definitely a labor of love, and a family affair. Though often times frustrating, the time spent together and the experience was priceless. She is a part of the family now and we will enjoy her for years to come.

I'm absolutely amazed!! Truly stunning. Incredible work and workmanship!! And I'm a bit jealous as well......as I have this very same boat. 1973 Uniflite 34 Sports Sedan with the Chrysler 330's. Lake Erie boat since new. Near as I can tell mine is identical with the exception that I do not have the dinette- I have the factory sleeper sofa on the starboard side of the salon. My Uniflite hull number is 34S133. I would love to contact you as I have sooooooo many questions. But until then, Bravo!!

Hi Michael, Thanks for the kind words. 👍 34 is a great boat and great size. She has been a fun project and will be put to use this summer. 😁 I need to check my hull # They could be sister ships. Or very close on production. I would be happy to answer any questions or help wherever I can. I am attempting to put together a video walk and talk through as soon as I can dedicate some time to do a good job. If you have a specific question or area you would like details on please let me know. Also you can PM me if you would like. Thanks again!

I really enjoyed watching your vid. I'm really impressed with the speed in which you completed the work !!(Ha, Ha) I have the exact same boat , located on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. I was going to ask you about the non-skid, but I now see the brand in the description. I like the "Logo" detail on the transom board. Where did you find the logo stencil ? Really nice job. I have worked on a lot of boats over the years, I often wonder , that people don't realize all the tedious and time consuming work that goes into a project like yours. Every time I open up my hatch and see the rat nest of old wiring running in the main compartment, I close it and go drink a beer! Kudos to your hard and wonderful work !!!
@GT2Racer
@GT2Racer 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. She was a fun project actual time spent was 3 years. Yes, very many details one tends to forget about until your into it. Pocket book determined speed of project though lol. Hope you are enjoying yours as much as we are. The 34' was one of my favorite models of Uniflite, had a balanced usable layout, adequate cockpit and that nice drop shear look. The logo stencil is just something I had our local vinyl shop make up, nothing fancy as it was discarded after use. It served as the negative space and removed immediately after kiwi was applied. Thanks again, and oh yeah there was much beer involved. :-)

Wow. Amazing job. I got a 36ft double cabin a couple yrs ago as a freebie with twin Cummins 5.9s and a 9kw gen. I've been wanting to do a restore but pleasure boat type supplies are hard to come by in my small town. I'm slowly getting it. But yours is beautiful. What did she cruise at for sea trials?
@GT2Racer
@GT2Racer 3 жыл бұрын
They are a labor of love and enjoyment. The sea trials provided about a 22 knot cruise. Worth noting though, she had 240 gallons of fuel on board (full tanks), and she is not yet fully equipped with all her gear though I don't foresee much of a change in the performance once equipped. Also worth noting, the engines transmissions and props have all been upgraded. The lm340's are now 408's producing 330hp, the velvet drives are now 72c and she is spinning 4 blade props. I will be providing more details, specs and performance numbers in the future. Thanks again and best of luck with your 36DC 👍

Awesome. My dc hit 24kts wide open. The trim tabs made a 2kt gain after I fixed them. I'm sure mine is heavier. Yours will do better.

Great video! Where did you get the stairs to the bridge?
@GT2Racer
@GT2Racer 3 жыл бұрын
The stairs are original to the boat, however they needed a lot of help. The stainless tube cleaned up just fine and was reusable but the steps were in pretty bad shape, some needed to be replaced. The only source I could find for a replacement for these steps came from buck algonquin / hydrasearch. catalog.hydrasearchrecreational.com/item/all-categories/aluminum-fly-bridge-ladder-steps-anodized/26st170100

@2:14 what’s was being applied to the deck and panels ?
@GT2Racer
@GT2Racer 3 жыл бұрын
The product being applied to the deck is called kiwi grip. It's a non skid coating used to create or enhance a non skid deck or topside surface. www.pyiinc.com/KiwiGrip/ I was faced with either a re gel coating with textured mold, or applying a product to the existing deck. I chose to go this route as it was economical and fairly straight forward. My deck was in great shape structurally, it was just tired and in need of a refresh. So this was the path I chose. Also should I change my mind in the future, the kiwi can be removed and you can proceed with an alternative product. My goal with this boat was for functionality and ease of maintenance. We'll see, time will tell. Thanks

How much time from start to water ?
@GT2Racer
@GT2Racer 3 жыл бұрын
It took me almost 3 years from date of purchase to relaunch. Time and finance dictating much of the pace. There are still a few minor projects remaining, but they can be addressed as I go. I will try to cover some of them in upcoming videos. Boats like many other things are never truly done. 😁 I hope to have a walkthrough available soon to better describe everything that was done and why. But I am currently in the process of moving and may take a bit longer to get to it. Thanks 👍
