This color promotional film is about the 1975 Chevy El Camino. The film emphasizes the economy presented by the vehicle which it calls a "beautiful value." Copyright 1974. The Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet in two periods, first in 1959-60 and then 1964-1987. Unlike a standard pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from the standard two-door Chevrolet station wagon platform and integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body.
Opening titles: 1975 Chevy El Camino, a Beautiful Value (:08-:42). Coil spring suspension for the El Camino. El Camino drives near a beach. A couple drive in the car. Power ventilation. The car drives into a marina. We see the inside of the El Camino as details and specs are explained (:43-2:26). Tailgate is lowered for storage. Shock absorbers. El Camino is backed out of a space. The car pulls onto a road. The car is immersed in an electrically charged primer. Double walled steel construction on the assembly line. The car is put together on the line. Front bumper cushion (2:27-4:37). Power steering. Three different types of V-8 engines are available. Specs are explained and animation shown. Chevy standard high energy ignition system. V-8 engine show and explained. Animation of the early fuel evaporation system. Air inlet system. Automatic transmissions. GM Proving Ground transmission test. Engine tuneup. Cars wheels on the road (4:38-7:03). El Camino rides down a curved street (7:04-7:26). El Camino options are explained, instrument panel is shown. Man drives the car and uses power door locks, a tilted steering wheel. A man leans on the car. The car is parked on a construction site. El Camino drives (7:27-8:49). End disclaimer (8:50-8:57).

I bought one of these "cowboy cadillacs" in 1974 after comparing it to a Ford Ranchero that was bigger but had a smaller engine. About the only complaint was ground clearance.

It's so weird that Chevrolet compared it to the Monte Carlo when the El Camino was really a Chevelle with a bed. The front clip even interchanges.

The Monte Carlo (1st and 2nd generation) was based on a Chevelle platform.

Awesome there are some getting around here in Australia some imported back in the day converted to right hand drive and some resent imports that are still US original. Australian design rules say that if an imported vehicle from another country is 30 years plus no modification is necessary as parts are unavailable for the particular vehicle anymore. Made my bones on Rochester's carburetors. When properly adjusted and maintained monojet to the quadrajet they worked real well.

I think he said it had air shocks and that is where you put air in them for a heavy load

Air over hydraulic suspension, so you added air when loading it, to get it back to level again. Basically pumped up the shock absorbers to give a stiffer ride when loaded. If you did not dump it you would find the rear was prone to bouncing around and stepping out in corners.

In the old days they used to have the gas tank filler cap under the license plate...so you could also add gasoline to (under) the license plate.

And to think GM had a modern El Camino at their fingertips, ready to go, in the Holden Commodore Ute. Instead, GM screwed over Holden, closed the factory in Australia and then pulled out of Australia a few years later. GM is on the nose here now.

wonder why I see the looks and features etc on older era cars and trucks and say I'd buy that! but I'd never consider spending my hard earned money on anything made with bloated tech and prices the anti freedom machines chained with debts and troubles and tracking

Yes, fuel consumption was constant, along with top speed. Exactly the same range irrespective of loaded, unloaded, with a caravan on the back, or not. Top speed the same going up hill and down hill, with or without the caravan, though with the caravan stopping was somewhat longer. Could not go past the fuel station, without stopping to fill that tank though.

They had 26 gallon gas tanks so the range was in excess of 400 miles.

@@rayjames6096 BIL had one he bought well used here in South Africa, and it had a smaller tank, probably to fit into load regulations for the pick up market for it's size. 3 speed auto, he really wanted to find the overdrive for it, but was never able to afford them when they did pop up.
