I admire you for taking it on, and getting it to run. Lots of us armchair mechanics are cringing, you didn’t show if you checked to oil first, hope you did. And WD40 has no lubricating properties, not the best for cylinders.

WD is great for short term light lubrication and displaces water. It’s always a good idea to juice those dry old cylinders with anything really. And if your dealing with aluminum pistons it’s a must (CB750’s etc)

Great video-I have had several Moto Guzzis and gave my son my 850T with a sidecar. The cylinders on these are chrome lined and the chrome will flake off eventually so we have purchased new cylinders and pistons. Please investigate this because my understanding is that they will fail (not if, but when). Best of luck! jt

I love my T I restored 9 years ago, simple, reliable & easy to work on. You may want to research about the chrome cylinders flaking; obviously not good for engine. I replaced mine with Gillardonis & they were not cheap or easily available back then. Early T's also had only a wire mesh gauze filter to help remove sparrows & low flying house bricks. Best of luck. They are worth the spending money on, you will have a bike that is not only few & far between but it will be bullet proof as well. MG Cycles are a wealth of parts & knowledge.
@motorcyclerewind

Hey George, How's your daughter Judy? I think the engine on mine was painted black and that is what was flaking off. I am going to do my best to remove all of the paint. I am enjoying the process with this Moto Guzzi. Please subscribe if you haven't already and please share.
@MrJetson2

@@motorcyclerewind The chrome plating on the internal cylinder bore reacts with the alloy cylinder & flakes off. This can cause the rings to grab for eg. It also ends up in the oil. If so the engine will need a complete strip down. If you drain the oil & it has silver flakes in it then the chrome lining has failed. The cylinders are easily removed for inspection. For peace of mind I would remove the cylinders. Riding with flaking cylinders will only destroy it one way or the other; sooner or later.

You're right, my dad got my Guzzi from me and forgot he left it running in the garage. When he came running back to the garage remembering his folly, she overheated and and was lobbing. He passed away last year and I got it back. Left bank was scored and I had to replace the piston and cylinder. It had flaked at halfway through travel and top edge. Funny thing, original pistons were 4 ring and my one replacement is a 3 ring. Doesn't matter, now she's a beast. I've done a complete rebuild. She's coated in Dodge viper copperhead colored frame and Dodge viper snakeskin green. On top of that I had a cafe racer seat reupholstered in snake skin vinyl. Wished I could post a picture.

Right on! You got that Moto Guzzi running. Moto Guzzi builds a great motorcycle. They are shaft drive twins like a BMW (duh). You knew this of course. These Guzzis were very dependable motorcycles down the road; smooth, sweat handling, classic bikes. Guzzi guys are fanatics. Moto Guzzi is the Harley Davidson of Italy. All the Italian Police motorcycles are Moto Guzzis. This bike was a score! A much better motorcycle than the Yamaha 650 twin in the background (I like those bikes too, just sayin'). The trick is finding the parts you need. The 850 T was not a plentyful machine. It's well worth the effort to rebuild this bike however.
@motorcyclerewind
@motorcyclerewind Жыл бұрын
This was an easy one. Just one system at a time. I know nothing about these apart from the research that I have been doing. Look forward to putting some moles on it. Unfortunately, people like their used Moto Guzzi parts. To go back stock is outside what I want to spend on this motorcycle. The laundry list is front and rear fenders, Speedo and tach and related mounts, headlight and bucket, rear gargantuan bar and turn signals and tail light. What what I found so far I am over $1,000 and I don’t the market id real strong for 850T’s. Love to hear your thoughts.
@Spike9803
@Spike9803 Жыл бұрын
@@motorcyclerewind These Moto Guzzis are revered. The 850T is not a bike that had 50,000 imported, but it definitely has value. Swap meets are a good place for parts, also eBay or Guzzi riders forums online. I'll tell you this, if you dial in that Guzzi you can ride it across the country. Moto Guzzis are just like BMWs in this regard. It seems like your bike was stripped for a crashed bike. Your Guzzi does not look like it was crashed hard. Only go "stock" on the parts that matter; OE fenders for instance. Pipes, go after market with an OE appearance. Seat... swap meet, or a Corbin (but they are expensive). The OE seats on most M G are awesome, if you can find one. Turn signals are cheep, get the small LED kind. Try to get OE gauges with the dash that has the warning lights, and also try to find the OE headlight bucket to preserve the value of the motorcycle. Nice purchase, Good luck!

I restored bikes for 15 years. The most expensive machines to restore concerning parts are Moto Guzzi, & BMW. I restored a 78 Guzzi 850-T. Cost me twice the amount in parts than the purchase price.changing the oil filter is a nightmare. Must have been drinking vino when they decided to place the oil filter inside the oil pan. But the bike is great fun after sorting everything out.

Great score for 400 bucks. I used to have a 2017 Moto Guzzi V7iii. that looked similar to that. They're fun bikes. Where did you get that large wiring diagram printed up? Wiring isn't my strong suit, but I enjoy crimping bullet connectors and terminals. I'm definitely getting better at it. I don't understand why someone would cut the wires right at the connector when they could just de-pin them.

I get the wiring diagram posters done at Walgreens. All I have to do is locate the image and do the rest at Walgreens.com. An hour later I have it. Big hack is there is always a 50%-60% coupon code available. The big poster cost me $15.99. I'll never understand why people hack up wiring. Just doesn't make sense!
