Good luck installing the tank. The new IROC tank I bought was no way near fitting. I had to cut the filler neck and splice a piece of hose after taking out a section of pipe. Hope yours is better.

Yep, you probably would scratch it, I scratched the heck outa my tank I put in my Satellite. I have this set up from Tanksinc for my Coronet. The powder coated tank is a work of art! I’m going to cut an access door in my trunk to make it easier to get to the pump. Figured if I do drag week it will be easier to get to and fix if needed.
@asicerik3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have pondered the access kit. How important do you think that is? I am not going to be at the track much
@BigfootsnMopars3 жыл бұрын
@@asicerik you probably won’t have any issues. I’ve had to drop the standard tank in my Satellite twice not to mention when I replaced the original. (Due to my own mistakes) It’s hard to access the sending unit and fuel lines due to the rear end. I have to drop the front straps and lower it to gain access. I never seem to get it empty enough and spill gas. Usually on myself since I don’t have a lift and I’m always laying underneath the car. I like the idea of not having to drop or drain the tank just pop the trunk and work from above.

I used a small piece of plywood and my floor jack to remove and install my tank by myself. Don't forget to add the anti-rattle/squeak to the top of the tank and to the straps. You may want to fit the straps in the slots towards the front of the car and bend them with your hands to shape them to the approximate shape of the tank before you get the tank up under there or you may not have enough room.(if you have new straps)
@asicerik3 жыл бұрын
Might work, yup. I do have the straps up there. I was going to test fit it before doing the rubber stuff, but I think I will not want to do this more than once now.

A roll-over valve is a liquid / vapor separator. No one has plans to roll over as I you did, oil pressure would drop, so an oil pressure switch has been used for decade to shut off the pump. Tanks are designed with a bulge in the top, as fuel enters, liquid splashes. Their is a hollow lite-weight float that remains open by a small weak spring. Shake it. Once closed, vapor pressure builds up. This forces liquid fuel up the filler neck. Once it hits the gas pumps aspirator tube inside the gas stations filler, it shuts off, Magic. There is wire for ground and aspirator signal are inside the rubber hose between the pump & nozzle, that shuts off the pump. Some swaps are done with no activated carbon canisters or plumbing. With no place for fumes to be stored (Inside Canister), a guy May find the tank is hard to fill as it shuts off every 15 seconds. Caps have evolved but all are vented to allow air into the tank. Let hydrocarbons escape and run free, and you will get a ticket in places like California. Have you noticed the convoluted rubber seal on the gas stations pump? Was is that? It is a vacuum that pulls hydrocarbons into the largest activated carbon canister you have ever seen. So, old vintage had no exit pressure restriction. They say “Caution, gas may spray when removed”. Newer had a 1 psi pressure while OBD-II in 1992 in California jumps to 2 psi. The rest of the county was 1994 (1996 is 17 pin / not 14 pin ) called OBD-I many times. It is “Type 2” code, so (test runs, fails, stores all engine/system info). GM will tell the driver to “Check Gas Cap” as it only runs (Enable Criteria Met at 80% full to 20% empty). Cap loose, hanging or screwed in crooked and corrected, as the PCM clock waits due to run time, runs the test again, passes, no CEL, fail records stored, clock is reset, fail records erased after 40 warm-up cycles. (Air temp & coolant temp within 10 degrees F upon start, then reaches 172 degrees F or higher and shut off = warm-up cycles) it’s all very simple if you know OBD-II. If I had a roll-over valve with fitting at top of tank, I would run a hose higher than filler cap, loop down and zip tie into place. Retired ASE Master
@asicerik3 жыл бұрын
That's a lot of great stuff Dean. The instructions for the ERod say to use a check valve if the tank is not "domed". I am not sure if this tank is. Tanks Inc. says they are not. If not, I need a check valve that will allow vapor in/out but not fuel liquid, right? I am planning on running the vent line in a sorta-loop above the rear end, like they had it in 77. That will cover side roll-overs, but if the car ends up upside down, the fuel would run down the line up to the evap canister up front. It might end up below the fuel tank level, so the fuel could run out there. So, to solve that, I think I need a roll-over valve which does not vent to the atmosphere, but is sealed. I have not found one anywhere though.
@deankay44343 жыл бұрын
Many in that era and older, simply run the “Check Valve” we call roll over in hose up the filler neck (Not behind rag / side fill) but hose goes over the side filler neck then to “Tank” line into the canister. It just helps us burn raw fuel you pay for. You can Google 1960’s, 1970’s, EVAP Systems and get good ideas. The canister is sized for tank volume and I think that year had the round one on drivers inner fender behind headlamp. “LS” is easy as it purges the canister by drawing in fresh air from bottom filter. Computer controlled is way cleaner than a thermal vacuum switch on intake. No extra fuel cold or at idle as there is no way to adjust A/F ratio. Remember the air cleaner snorkel with vacuum valve & one hose. It balanced to control intake air at 145-155 degrees F as hot air has less oxygen and carb does not adjust unless O2 sensor and solenoid inside carb. They even had a bi-metal valve on the back of the carb that opened when too hot, letting more air in. As an ASE Master, you can take “L1” cert for 100 questions on emissions. I missed one. Best of luck as car look nice.

What did you do for Tank Venting and the Rollover Vent Valve? I am installing a Tanks Inc kit in my 68 and all is going swimmingly well until I hit the venting part. I fully understand the merging of vent ports, routing, orientation, and functionality of the valve. My question is where to put it? I assume that your second gen has the same kind of issues. There is no place under the car that is higher than the Filler Cap... I questioned Tanks Inc and they gave me a canned answer of above the Axle (which isn't high enough) or in the wheel well (seems like an offley wet place). Your thoughts? No one is brave enough to provide these details on YT and the forums I see people avoiding the question. Crickets! Envy of your constant progress... you'll ne cruising soon!

Hey buddy. This is what I have so far, but I am going to change things around a little. My car has an EVAP system, so it is a little more complicated. If I did not have the EVAP, I think I could get the rollover valve up along the frame rail. That is higher than the tank. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNKllbaIvsvDmKM.html

@@asicerik Thanks for the video link. I remember watching that video and was surprised that when I went back to this video, that information wasn't here!! I picked up a tip on splitting the Tanks Inc Rollover Valve and replacing the Top with a barbed fitting. THAT might be my answer. (Genius I tell you!). The Venting instruction (that does not involve an EVAP Canister) talks about not creating a drop loop in the vent line (P-Trap). I believe this is so that liquid gas is not trapped in that area and blocks the freely venting of the tank. Is that an issue with your setup where you drop down to enter your switchback hardline tubing? I always pick up cool stuff from your videos. Cheers my friend!

Hi Leslie. Probably after getting it running. I am going to go through and make sure there are no loose wires to short out before I start it, but I will wrap it all up after that. For the kit, they only have one "Direct Fit" kit, so I went with that. You can use the other ones, but those are generic.
