I have always thought he sings this just for me. Mercy - I get chills too when I hear Ray sing this fabulous song. What a wonderful voice, handsome, always elegant and gentlemanly. He sang many songs in the past but the first one I ever heard him sing was "City Lights". He entertained us for so many years and each time I saw him in concert he was very appreciative of his audience and of all his many fans. Unforgettable truly talented artist.

Even before this song came out in the 1970s. I was laying in bed with the woman I truly loved and I did watch the raindrops on the window running into one another thinking how can I tell her I wasn't going to see her ever again. It broke my heart to tell her after 15 months together without her knowing that I had a wife and three small children at home that needed me. Every time I hear this song I hated myself for breaking both of our hearts. If you are married never do this you will suffer the pain in your heart forever.

I lost my Mom on my birthday, Dec 9. When trying to reach my brother, we found him dead in his apartment. No foul play either death, but going through Mom's things on Monday the 16th, I got to her record player. She had three albums on it, all Ray Price albums. The next day I found out he passed away. Sent chills through me like I had never felt before. Ray, my Mom is the little lady in the front row in heaven!

This was my parents , OUR SONG. My dad died in 1977. I was 17, my sisters were 18,13,and 11. My mother was 39 and is now 80 years old. Wish they had the chance to grow old with each other. Pretty crummy deal. But life goes on. Every time I hear this, I'm 11 or 12 again. Remembering kid things and happy family times. I hope my kids have as good memories as I have of my childhood.

Sadly the older we get, the more loss we feel, but it's the memories that are left with us that count and music can fill that void some times. I pray Ray gets his strength back and maybe he can spend some time doing what he wants to do, hopefully some fishing. He's given so much to his fans, it's time now for him to do something totally for himself.

On this day in 1970 {September 19th} Ray Price's "For The Good Times" reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Country Tracks chart... One month earlier on August 29th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #11 and spent 24 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #2 on the Canadian RPM Country chart... Was covered by Perry Como in 1973; his version peaked at #7 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... The song was written by Kris Kristofferson...

I am NOT a fan of the Nashville Sound, except for Patsy Cline, a few songs from Jim Reeves, and this one from Ray Price. He had a smooth, pop, crooning type voice. In an era when country music wanted their stuff to sound as much like Sinatra, Como, and Bennett as they could get it, Ray Price was perfect for that. Price would always come out, sing a flawless performance, and that was that. If dropping the mic had been a thing back then, he definitely could have done that.
