@@chargermaster3716 Yeah, but "base" models are usually only available in single cab configurations. Some companies only offer base models in half tons, so if you need a 3/4 ton or larger, you have to get it with a bunch of luxury crap, because all the rich boy city slickers buy the luxury 3/4 and 1 ton trucks to tow their toys (campers, boats, etc.) on the weekends, and they have become the largest part of the light truck market, so the manufacturers don't care about the working class anymore.

Automakers will build what new vehicle buyers want not what used vehicle buyers want. Don't think for a minute that automakers are pushing fleet - work truck 3/4 and 1 T buyers into a Platinum trim level, base still exists. There are a lot of " options " that are standard these days simply because the cost of making say wind up windows for 5% of the buyers will be more expensive than putting power on everything Cars / trucks last much longer than in days past and get better fuel mileage so be sure to look at cost per mile not just purchase price. Also look at the CPI Calculator to compare past goods prices to current prices. You really don't want a 1975 C30 1 ton dump with manual steering, 4.56 gears, granny 1st 4 speed , 250 inline 6 that gets 5 MPG and has a top speed of 55 MPH all out do you?

@@bobroberts2371 I'm a tech at a Chevy dealership in farm country. Around here farmers like one ton duallies for feeding cows, and they all complain that they can't get a simple, bare bones truck with no added on creature comforts. None of the manufacturers offer that anymore. Yes, base model trucks do exist, but (I can only speak for chevy here) they only offer them in half ton, regular cab, 2wd models. If you want 4wd, or extended cab, or more load capacity, you are forced to get a whole slew of other options that nearly double the cost of the vehicle.

Live Wire , they must not be looking very hard, I just used the Chevy web site and speced out a base 1 ton, dual wheel 4 WD and it came in at $ 39,000. Below is money conversion using the CPI calculator on the BLS dot gov web site. The only MSRP I could find was for a 1985 truck. Remember, the 2020 truck has auto trans, AC, anti lock brakes, airbags. It will also get way better fuel mileage and cost less to maintain in terms of tune up / oil changes / exhaust changes. ( The old stuff had mild steel exhaust where new stuff has stainless. ) . 1 ton, 4 wd base 2020 39,000 2010 32,800 2000 25,500 1990 19,200 1985 15,900 ( base price in 85 was 11,600, this would be 28,300 today , This would be a no AC / manual trans / small motor ) 1980 11,700 1970 5,700

You can add like 30+K worth of options to them now a day... same engine/chassis... just 30+k worth of Napa leather, Wi-Fi hot spots, 10 cameras, 4 zone climate control, moon roofs, heated/cooled/massaging seats etc etc.. I mean Have you seen the tailgate in the 2020 GMC? That option alone only comes when you get an options package that costs over $11,000... probably more than these trucks cost new. Comments like this crack me up. As if modern trucks aren’t incredibly engineered… a modern half-ton can tow and haul more than most of the one-tons of this era, and the payload/towing numbers for modern one-tons are insane. I love these older trucks, and their simplicity is very appealing, but to try and claim that no thought or effort goes into making modern pickups is just an exercise in looking back with rose-tinted glasses.

Please call me stupid ill really appreciate it lol- in 1979 I was young and stupid ( and like they say now I'm old and stupid) I had an opportunity to buy a new car or truck and I went to the 1979 trans am t tops , instead of a Toyota land cr. Or a full size van with everything in from refrigerator to folding bed or even a corvette or go cheaper and more reliable like a Toyota or Honda or vw bug convertible or the vw van but I didn't, today we have seen how much the Toyota 79 land cr. Have got very collectibles, as if that's not stupid enough for my decisions I even let go of a beautiful girlfriend I dated back then. Oh lord if I could only have a time machine lol.

I honestly didn't know they had commercials for these trucks. I grew up riding around with my grandad in these and the 69s and I can tell you as far as trucks that you could just drive and use all day everyday these were excellent and still are and as far as comfort there on par with most all chevy silverados top quality so what if the radios never worked the most expensive one was a thousand dollars

@@crushingvanessa3277 Filter-Film and similar products are made of lanolin - basically hand cream. Lanolin is wool oil from sheep and naturally resists oxidation. You usually apply Filter-Film every year or so, but its not expensive. When you re-apply it, you can address any minor rust.

New they didn't drive bad. I was a Dodge or Ford guy but my father's mid and late 70's K20s drove just fine for me when I did drive them (we used them in a family logging business, I was the paperwork jockey since I was also an accountancy and taxation professor).

Look at the frame why is it only a C channel we can have a steering box mouse in a frame so eventually it will torque and rip right off look at the hood see how it will kink in the middle look at the gas tanks see how they’re mounted on the outside so when you hit them they explode see the metal fender wells see how they rust
