1979 was a monumental year for Michael Jackson, as he embarked on a world tour with his brothers after the success of their 'Destiny' album. While on tour, Jackson began recording his 'Off The Wall' album, which was released in the summer and became a smash hit with rave reviews.
Michael released two no. 1 singles in 1979, his last no.1 was with 'Ben' in 1972, and his new found popularity allowed the Jacksons to ramp up their Destiny tour into an arena production, which they toured the US in till the end of the year.

Not really. The solo album begins in 1971 for MJ. He is the first and youngest Member of the Jackson family to release a solo album other than Jackson 5. P.S. First album: Got to be there. It released on 24 January 1972, earlier than Jermaine Jackson's first album by months.

I was at the Nassau Coliseum show. November 8, 1979. LTD was the opening act. I was 15! What a memory! Destiny, Off The Wall and Triumph were my favorite recordings/tours and 1979-1981 was , musically, the best time!

1979 was also dominated actually by Donna Summer who had both the number 1 song and album at the same time. She was churning out hit after hit that year on pop, disco and R&B charts.

the ending of the destiny tour really showed how he was destined to be the the greatest . he then went on to do the victory tour after becoming exactly what he was destined to be . victory is his for eternity . rip the king

i loved that you incorporated michael's own commentary. it would have been great to see a clip of the music video for 'don't stop'. this really was a happy and optimistic time. the second best video on this channel after '1983' :)

I remember watching all of these interviews when they originally aired on "Soul Train" and "Bandstand" back in February 1979! and" 20/2" August 1979. I was 13 years old and so in love"in my mind" with Michael! lol I did get to see their "Victory Tour" in Philly in 1984, but the Triumph Tour" still to this day, is the one I wanted to see and feel was the best tour.
