I always loved Stargell's pinwheel bat motion before every pitch. One of a kind, no other player did that. Forbes Field center field and right center was a graveyard for potential home run balls, 450 to 430 ft. Stargell's wife claimed he lost a dozen home runs a year.

Tom Seaver at 35 goes 8 innings like it was drinking water. Today's modern "bigger stronger" pitchers have trouble getting past the 6th and often times have an 80 pitch count limit and STILL get hurt more than not. What the hell has happened to baseball?
@TheLeadSled6 жыл бұрын
Danny Sullivan money happened, bigger contracts means the manager babies the pitchers
@dannysullivan89296 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right "The LeadSled" but that's exactly my point. Even though they are babied by their managers and owners, they STILL get hurt like it was going out of style. Look at the Mets Staff, all 5 pitchers were hurt this past Summer......ALL FIVE!!!!.....PLUS THE CLOSER!!!...that was literally unheard of back in the day. And these guys are all under 28!!!!!!! Look at Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals, they shut him down 3 years ago for the playoffs and he has STILL gone on the DL 3 times since. It's just incredible.
@TheLeadSled6 жыл бұрын
Danny Sullivan I agree whole heartily with you, injuries still occur. My team (Orioles) has had horrific time with pitchers, we have had so many high dollar prospects already have TJ surgery. Unfortunately my friend it the times we live in, I miss the days of old, the Palmers, Ryan, Carlton, etc....those were the days.

You got THAT right!!!..........I miss them too. How about Wilbur Wood of the White Sox starting BOTH GAMES of a doubleheader in 1973!!!!......today they're lucky if they start two games in ONE WEEK!!!!!!
@ckendall676 жыл бұрын
- There, that's the reason you don't see pitchers pitch as many innings, too many guys blow out their shoulders if they're being over-used or pitch too often in a short time frame. You guys want to go back to the days when guys pitched BOTH games of a doubleheader, well how many of those guys nowadays have bad shoulders & aches & pains from all those times they wore out their arms & shoulders? THAT'S why pitchers aren't throwing as many innings, do you want to see guys on your teams wind up blowing out their throwing shoulders just because you want to pitch like it was in the 'old days'??
