Needless to say, this was a loaded all-star game. Both teams seriously wanted to win it. Wish I could have been there. Bird made a difference in the last few minutes of this game in more ways than just hitting the shots. This was a sample of what was coming and was already there to a degree.

People that say that Bird isn't at least top ten just need to watch footage of him playing. If they can't see the greatness and uniqueness of his game then they are blind. Any player in this clip here would be all-stars just as they were then. What player today would be able to stop Kareems sky hook?

Traveling is rampant in the league today as well as palming. I'm sorry but the Euro step is traveling also, plain and simple. Using your off hand to fend off the defender (Lebron is a master of this) is rampant. Since you can't touch anyone either, is it any wonder the defense is soft in the NBA today? The offensive player has all these unfair advantages.

DJ was an all-time great. His defense on Magic Johnson in the 1984 Finals was huge. He was clutch for the C's, and with the Sonics he could really get up, blocked a lot of shots. Bird said he always knew DJ had another gear when the going got rough, and was his basically his favorite teammate.

Great Video and thanks for the post! The uniforms give this a Washington Bullets intra squad scrimmage feel, lol. No doubt, Larry Joe Bird and Magic were all time greats! It was cool seeing The Iceman balling out there, George Gervin was an elite scorer for about 5 season. Guy was just silky smooth and I loved that little finger roll he had! I was 11 years old when this game was played and as I watch it now I notice there is much more defense than the modern ASG. Adrian Dantley was another awesome scorer in his day.

Crazy how competitive they played back then in these games. Just a list of all time greats in this game. I was trying to write down names as they flashed across the screen. Folks may not have seen Walter Davis or Dan Roundfield play but those were some bad dudes. Same with Otis Birdsong, Michael Ray Richardson, Elvin Hayes, John Drew. OMG! Also, we use to laugh at the geography. San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets (Gervin and Moses) played for the East. Marques Johnson (Please help me understand why this dude isn't in the Hall of Fame yet) played for the West and he played for Milwaukee. As kids, we use to laugh at that setup. But it was nice seeing a young Larry Bird, Dr. J, Iceman, and Moses on the same team.

If only the 1973 Virginia Squires had been able to hold on to Julius Irving and George Gervin, that team likely would have become so good they would have made the grade to join the NBA some years later when several teams from the ABA merged with the NBA.

Like the great champion that he was, Bird made up for the mistake on the shot that could have won the game already in the 4th quarter.

Nice to watch games when a travel was a travel. Its hard to look as athletic as todays players when you can take 3 or 4 steps! People nowadays talk about how much more athletic players are today and i say CALL A TRAVEL!
