A rural school district here in Washington state (Orting) still ran two of these coaches until around the late 2010's. If parts weren't impossible to find, these coaches could serve forever. You're lucky to get 15 years out of anything built today.

I loved riding to school on those Crown Buses. 1977 to 1988 My School District (San Dieguito in North San Diego) had Only Crowns until they switched to Gillig. In Service buses 13, 14, & 15 were early 1960's 4 speeds with angular front windows, and tail lights on the rear doors. ( i suspect they were originally 3,4,&5) 1,2,3,4 were the 10 speed Long Body Busses with wrap around Front Glass, used for Away Football Games. 5,7,8,9,10, also had Wrap around Glass. 1- 10 seemed to be 1969 to 1972 - Round Wheel Arches 16,17,18, & 21 came along in 1979 -1980 with taller passenger seats and white painted roofs Plus AM/FM All Were Manual Trans -

I grew up in Westminster in the Seventies and love these busses even though I never rode in one. OVSD had all but one conventional, and the one flatnose was a Bluebird. Apparently, they have a fleet of All American Bluebirds now, back then, each bus was different. But, I saw Crowns all over the place in other school districts and always thought they were the coolest looking busses. Also, Crown Firecoaches dominated Southern California then as well, pretty sure Westminster, Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach all used those, and I still think to this day that Crown was the best looking of both kinds of truck.

The 6-71 is a Roots-type supercharger - why would you need a turbo? (I don't know who supplied the originals, but you can get new replacements from any Banks Power reseller/dealer - Banks Power uses one of three Roots-type superchargers in their packages: 4-71, 6-71, and 10-71.) I've also thought of giving a GMC Jimmy the Banks Power treatment - and paint it the same School District Yellow - only the engine bay would be OOS. (PGCPS never had Crowns - but DID have GMC Jimmy 4x4s in their support fleet.)
