Minis were known for doing there diffs and losing control like we saw here, thank God the Marshall survived, Minis were very fast but very very deadly, something not mentioned enough.

Blimey, that was crazy. Do we know what the outcome was? I hope the marshal was okay. Did something break on the Mini? That seemed a bit wild to be just driver error.

I was there in the Press area with my dad and another journalist Paul Higgins and his son Mark. Horrific crash. Bad day

The marshall's name was Ray Thatcher. The driver of the mini was David King. That's pretty much all the information I've been able to find out about the accident.

Thatcher was severly injured but survived. He was taken to a Melbourne hospital. But I read that the he never made a 100% recovery/that he was somewhat impaired by the consequences. Where did you find the driver's name?

I looked up information about the accident online and found a news cutting. This was 7 years ago now, though, so I'm not sure if it will be so easy to find again..

@@BlueSkyBS There is one David King on Facebook who raced Minis in Australia. And one of his photos show a Mini with the same livery. So it's quite likely that's him. The Sydney Morning Herald published a small article about the event and a (b/w) photo of the Mini after the accident. the-fastlane.co.uk/cpdb/crashphotos_view.php?page=view&editid1=5933

Some of the worst commentary I have ever heard and I live in an era with Sam Armitage and the Sunrise program airs.

ah but this is the days of racers Evan Green (which the cars were his period) the quite knowledgeable Mike Raymond who comes from the radio style of commentary, Gary Wilkinson & Brockie, and there's now way you can beat at 3:35 that commentary
