Different level of riding back in the day... We'll never again see a jockey colony like Winston Griffiths, Emelio Rodriguez, Everton Miller, Hubert Bartley, Andrew Ramgeet, Trevor Simpson, Joe Buchanan etc, like what we had in the 80s and 90s... Same goes for the U.S., in those days lots of jockeys were household names.

@@pelorusjack5461 never me general. It's was so refreshing back then.. Peanny was the top man ,but when ready kiddy mattis just pick and program a horse enuh, you dun know how that go...When I go there and see these jocks, it's what it is,but NO COMPARISON...

But you also need to remember these guys love horses an what they do in those days ,80% of these guys now only love it for the money ,an also you gotta remember those riders have horse knowledge these don't

Yes family, I used to bet and win money on H. Bartley more then any other jockey, If Bartley win 70 races for the year I normally have him about 50 times out of it, another jockey that I used to win big on was Des Smith and A. Ramgeet.

@@gsaarchitecturalmechanical5872 in 1987 I put on my 1st bet in life as a 12 year old..I had an adult do it for me...5 horses straight win for 2 dollars...they all won..Bartley opened the bet on open account and closed it on monaco..can never forget it.

Great jockey, who is rightfully highly admired by many, including myself. However in terms of riding "flat" from the beginning to the end of a race, Fernando Mera, who used to ride for Ralph Ziadie, was without a doubt the "flattest" jockey to ride at C.P. He was closely followed by Albino Ubidia and Jose Bravo.

If you only took up racing since Bartley was riding, then you're not qualified to know who is the flattest rider. Jose Bravo, Albino Ubidia and Fernando Mera, just to name three. Chinna Bartley fan and admirer here, he was an excellent rider (RIP) no need to make stuff up.

Hubert "Chinna" Bartley was key part of a most exceptional group of super talented Jamaican born jockeys that included - Winston "Fanna" Griffiths, OD; George HoSang; Emelio "Bimbo" Rodriguez; Charles Hussey, OD; Wayne Sinclair; Trevor "Slicer" Simpson, OD; Karl Brown; Carl "Deuce" Morgan and Fitzroy "Pumpkin" Gillespie - later changed to Glispie citing typo error of sorts.

@robertwaynestuart6219 We could go even further back to the 60s and include: Arthur "Daddy" Jones, Kenneth "Kiddy" Mattis, OD, Glenford "Coon" Walker, Winston "Mero" Ellis - father to Shane Ellis, Neville Cousley, David "Scorcher" McKenzie, Keith McFarlane, Horatio Nelson, Donald Andrade - the only Jamaican jockey who has ever won the Jamaica Derby and disqualified with a horse named Sun Fisher. If memory serves me correctly, that year of 1966 - the race was awarded to Ska.

Ettu with Neville Anderson astride and Sir Howard running with his head askew under H. "hyah byah" Matthews. Sir Howard's trainer Phillip Hart obviously had no qualms not selecting top notch riders for his "big horse." I recall Hubert Bartley riding him, though, in the Jamaica 2yo Stakes (before it was named the Toyota Cup) and battled from a long way out with Hello Poochie Liu (Bimbo astride) but in the end had to settle for second in a thrilling finish. Yes, the intense rivalry between Hello Poochie Liu and Sir Howard began from they were juveniles!!! Bimbo partnered her, too, to a scintillating victory in the Jamaica 1000 Guineas but he was given a one-year suspension soon after for an off the track incident. Bimbo has made his fair share of mistakes, but such is life.

What I'm noticing in these videos is how brutal the use of the whip was on those horses back in the day. I even saw a 12 furlong Harry Jackson Memorial race where the jockey whipped his horse to the lead for about the first furlong or so. Those use of the whip rule changes were necessary. But what a quick dismount that was by Hubert Bartley after this race.

Magical touch from Hubert "Washington" Bartley. He won at 9-1 that day. Here's another case of Sir Howard wearing blinkers and losing to inferior opposition... Heaven knows why the trainer saw it fit to fit him in it!!!

Neville Anderson lacked the finesse to nurse home Ettu without excessive use of the whip, which you could see the poor horse couldn't handle in the last 50 meters. Hence why he was called 'Chacka-Chacka'.

Neville gave ettu a great ride i think peanny told him put the horse in front because you have the speed but the distance might be too long so we will just see if they can catch you😂

Let me tell you all something a lot of you is praiy Bartley his best friend was my coworker anytime Bartley is going to win i know friend told me that Bartley rode with shocking device. Iam talking about his best friend he go to his house all the time they sit and chat he told me that
