@@nectarinedreams7208 I like Joe Bonanno. He is very personable, straight to the point kind of a guy. Very charismatic. How a man makes money and supports his family is no ones business. At the end of the day we all are going to die. I'd rather die wealthy than poor. These mafia members lived very interesting lives. I think the general public is spiteful and envious of how these men lived because they know deep down their life as a cubicle schmuck fucking sucks and is boring as shit.

Argghh.Hes a pussycat. Cosa Nostra doesn't even exist. I will go with FBI head at the times, J.Edgiver. Hoover. Who catogorically denied The very existence of the National crime syndicate. I mean these alleged rumours of Hoover being kept quiet and in line through pictures of him Hoovering his constant companion Clives todger, whilst attired in a beautiful silk dress and matching hat ensemble. Stockings or tights? Wasn't ever considered based on the absolute facts that none of this was true. So Mr Hoover, (ssllluuurrrppp!!!!), was the giver of head of FBI and in the best position(ahem!), in the World to know if the Mafia existed. Mr Hoover states unequivocally that the Mafia didn't exist!!!That's good enough to me.

@@philadelphiapennsylvania3809 Well I can't agree it died but it wasn't the same. Still a lot of this is political, sign of the times. Not just Gambino influence. Though he did hold authority, enormous authority in Cosa Nostra in America and could influence Sicily if he asked for a favour. Inevitably Cosa Nostra changed. I mean the Maxi trials in paler more during the 80s ended Cosa Nostra impunity. Carlo Gambino death had nothing to do with that.

Bonanno, the only mafia boss whose family kept its name since its inception. Gambino, Colombo, Luchese, even Genovese were not the original heads of their families when the commission was established in 1931. They only became bosses of their families some 25+ years later. Bonanno was the only one who was on the commission with Lucky Luciano.

At least from a criminal standpoint, Bonanno deserves credit for running a family for 30 odd years but his whole book was an attempt to whitewash his history. He was utterly preoccupied with trying to convince us that he was an intellectual. He tried to minimize the entire concept of him being a boss. No other family was as heavily involved in drugs than his. They were notorious for drugs all over the US, Canada and Sicily.

You have a better chance at holding legitimate business and the gov’t accountable and not getting whacked. Not that they won’t but the chances are in your favor. The mob works on their own so they can eliminate these chances. So that the odds are in their favor and death in the streets is the only option. That is the difference. I just love listening to old folks and their bs. 😄 Bonnano made more money from heroin trafficking than Luciano ever did. His conflict with Luciano was rooted in classist ideology. Bonnano came from the elite class while Luciano's people were peasants. Bonnano saw himself as some kind of displaced Sicilian prince, forced from his home by Fascism and desperately clinging to the ideals of his upbringing that held family loyalty, honor, pride, integrity, and maintaining of bloodlines was paramount. Luciano was a keen businessman who didn't care about a man's religion, race, or social class when it came down to making money--for him, it was about trustworthiness and he could see right through people, including snobs like Bonnano. I will say that I do like old man Joe's character and style. He's so full of himself and so charming at the same time lol. I could sit and listen to him lie and act like a gilded prince for days.

"The commision couldn't order a hit", yeah Smiling Joe. He was right though, the so called honor of a secret society, being the father of a family, that was just words by 1970. Lucky had Americanized it all right, it created wimp gangsters. There were a few old timers who went by rules. The Americanized gangster wouldn't serve time if they could rat instead. Look at Castallano, he was so scared of a relatively mild car theft indictment he kills the power crew in his so call family, Roy Demeo. Nino eventually did 5 years on it. So Paul was so scared of 5 years away he wiped out his toughest crew. That's not honor. Do a job with someone and their first hint of trouble kill anybody connected with it. That could not have been Lucky's vision. This 3rd wave of gangsters were weak. Men like Accardo,Gambino, Bonanno were dying off or "retired". BTW imagine the power you have to have to constantly rib Carlo Gambino that he looked like a weak squirrel. That was power.

Don Bonnano is the only person I've ever heard of that has spoken of Gambino in that manner. Even in death, Gambino scared the shit out of people, but not so Joseph Bonanno. Bonnano is underrated as a mafia figure compared to others as far as his life story and influence in his day. The youngest mob boss in history, literally as OG as it gets, and the family still keeps his name unlike all the others. Knew Masseria, Maranzano, Mangano, Luciano, Profaci, among other historical figures as both his bosses and peers. Not to mention the shit he pulled would've earned ANYONE else a death sentence many times over in that life yet he always got a pass. He was a Maranzano loyalist who still got to keep his status as boss after Maranzano was murdered. What makes him so interesting is how he pulled that off and walked every time because of his extremely close ties and backing from Sicily. Then he got to retire in Tucson, stay out of jail, and die an old man after writing an entire book about his life.
