Күн бұрын

He wrote his name in blood on the sidewalks of New York and made himself the Boss of all Bosses. Arriving in America at the age of nine and embarking upon a life of crime at age 14, Charles "Lucky" Luciano rose through the ranks of the New York Mafia like a pistol shot. By the age of 34, he was running the Sicilian mob like a U.S. corporation diversifying the rackets, organizing the gangs and running his own political candidates. Examine Lucky's 30-year career as CEO of Murder, Inc. through rare interviews and extensive archival footage. Mob insiders recall the history-making meetings held in Luciano's Waldorf-Astoria headquarters. And naval records reveal how his top-secret war efforts earned him parole from a 50-year sentence.Journey into the dangerous world of La Cosa Nostra for the definitive portrait of one of the most notorious criminals in history.

My grandmother knew all those guys, and many were at her house on any given Sunday for dinner. She was a young teenager back then and lived a lavish lifestyle. Her father disappeared in 1931 while on his way to Chicago. He was never heard from again, nor seen. His body was never recovered. Her mother kept asking where her husband was, and Luciano himself told her she has to stop asking about him and not to come around anymore. It is believed that was the final move for Luciano”s rise to the top. I knew my great grandmother, she died when I was about 7. Listening to my grandmother talk of her memories was amazing. She told of one time during a gathering at her house there was a raid, and several of the men gave her and her sisters their guns to hold knowing they wouldn’t be searched. My grandmother hiding the gun of a gangster in her purse. Shocking, lol. She went to Frankie Yale’s funeral, she was much younger then, but couldn’t get over the crowd size and flowers. My grandmother passed away some time ago, before the internet was around. I should have documented her memoirs, they were so interesting. I have a set of demitasse spoons from the restaurant her father had in Coney Island, which is known for a few events that transpired. I never got the chance to meet my great grandfather like I did with his wife. Who knows if he would have lived to a ripe old age, but Lucky saw to it that he didn’t. Hey, that was the life back then. They all knew it. Watch your enemies close, but watch your friends closer.

Crazy how Castro became public enemy number 1 when he shut down mob owned casinos and the drug flow pipeline out of Cuba to the u.s. One would think the U.S. would be grateful Castro did that because it impedes the flow of drugs in the U.S. but nah, he must’ve upset a lot of ppl by interrupting that cash flow and therefore had to answer for that!! They should do a documentary about his life. Would make for a great movie!

"The Chairman" was how Frank Costello was called, who was much more of a sophisticated guy. Lucania's nickname has always been just "Lucky". Besides - sure as hell "Lucky" had always great respect in the mob, but is credited for many things he didn't do, like "creating the five families" - the "5 Families" already existed, before Lucania became "big in the game" - the mere idea of an "all-American" mob-organization was already "in the air" and it was put into practice by Sal Maranzano.
@mmsizzlak
@mmsizzlak 5 жыл бұрын
2serveand2protect I have LITERALLY watched nearly every documentary about the American Mafia and you could count on one hand how many times they correctly credited Maranzano as the progenitor of the la cosa nostra the public has come to know... Goes to show you how the producers of these documentaries and others in the industry have chosen embellishments, outright exaggerations, and fiction in order to score more viewers... Another good example is how even so called "mob historians" in these shows have outright proliferated the lie of the ace of spades being placed in Anastasia's hand by his killers when it was REALLY placed there by a journalist... I've even seen the same, exact interviewee say it's true in one show then turn around and say the opposite in another show

Gambino knew and was working with Luciano, Costello, Genovese, Lansky etc...long before the 5 families were reorganized under Luciano in 1931 (Maranzano initially created the 5 families). In 1931 after the reorganization, Gambino was promoted to Capo in the Mangano crime family which ultimately became the Gambino crime family in 1957 after Albert Anastasia was assassinated

@@riscook9487 Exactly. The story goes that when "The Commission" agreed to kill Siegal, his closest boyhood friend, Lansky, reluctantly agreed Bugsy had to go. Supposedly Lansky had used his considerable influence to stave off Siegel's assassination many months before, but Siegal was out of control, and Lansky eventually knew there was only so much he could do before his friend was a dead man.
