The 80's was the greatest decade ever. I used to race back in 78-82 and had a RM and a YZ 80. Loved the smell of the Castrol oil that mixed with the fuel. Lets not forget the music that came out of the 80's either. What a blessing it was to be a kid in the US during the 80's. Now I look at the world and it seems as if I am on a completely different planet.

All of the 80s 500s were so badass! That thing sounds super dialed! A friend is lucky enough to have one of those super rare birds. I love the CRs of the era, but that RM is a unicorn, great job building that one!

My first woody for dirt bikes started around 77-78. I can’t remember exactly which year but I remember it was an RM80 the kid on the street behind our house had. I was 9 and we had just moved to Connecticut from the Bronx and I heard this noise from off in the distance curious I went to go see what it was. Then I saw it. I’ll never forget that as long as I live. I’m 53 and I can still remember the sound it made, and that 500 brought me right back. there.

the days of the 2 strokes were the best ever, the sound, the smell, that power band, and the relatively inexpensive repairs, 4 strokes have killed the dream for budget riders. LOVE YOUR VIDS DUDE, KEEP EM ROLLING !!

I had the same bike but 1 year older, I had the 1982 RM 465Z. Bought it brand new in 1982 for $2,495. I also added the same air box, I got it from White Brothers in Cali. Also sent the rear shock to White Brothers and put a terry fork kit on the front. It was a beast, but so fun to ride. I had it for 8 years and sold it in 1990. Ran like a top, started first or second kick every time, and I never had one engine problem with it. Best bike I ever had.

Those old Full Floater (and Kawi Uni-Trak) rear suspensions were heavier and a bit more work to maintain than the linkage types used now, but they worked so well. Smooth and progressive... This bike is an absolute gem.

Had a RM250 in 1988 when I was 22, it was an awesome bike. The fantastic sound of this 500 took me straight back there. Thank you.

A childhood friend's older brother had this same bike. It was the first big two stroke anyone I knew had, and like you, knew how to ride! Another stellar video of the favorite parts of my youth. 👍

I'd take that over a new 2021 all day anyday..I can feel that power band watching you ride that bike just tiling up the ground though the gears .....and it just looks amazing sitting there such good looks and stants.
