I have a 1986 Fiero SE with the V6, and 4 speed manual transmission. Red, 2 tone silver interior. Fully loaded purchased the car new in June of 86. I was 26 then. It was a super fun car, pretty quick, and handles fantastic. It has 286.000 miles on it and still runs great. Lifelong Southern California car has kept it in excellent shape. About 3 weeks after I bought it I was pulled over by a cop, lights flashing and all..im thinking what have i done? He comes up to my window and says, I pulled you over because I'm thinking of getting one of these and was wondering how you like it !!!😅

My father had a Fiero GT when I was in Middle School. Awesome sporty little car. However it got totaled by a Ford Bronco that ran over the front of it by turning left from a right hand lane. Great looking cars, something Pontiac should have tried to keep going in my opinion. Cost effectiveness and the popularity of the Firebird kinda killed this thing. Good luck getting this one going!

Glad you got this car I passed on it when i learned how hard it was to get out of barn. I was just going to part it. I have a full set of brakes for a 84 if you want a shot at them to rebuild. Wiring on the 84 cars are unique to 84 make sure to get the correct wiring diagram. There are some parts that are 84 only but the gm parts bin is in full effect on these. Upgrades can come from a bunch of other gm cars of the era.
@CTmoog21 күн бұрын
Yes, it was not easy getting it out of there...It's seems like a pretty cool car. I'm looking forward to getting it up and running.
@mortisangelica21 күн бұрын
@@CTmoog get a trottle body rebuild kit and dip it in carb cleaner. The fuel injector almost never dies if you get spark it should spray gas. Fun fact about the 84 it can idle and run with out the ecu. The ignition control module sets base timing and a 500 rpm idle. The ecu only advances timing and how long the fuel injector opens. Don't smash the column lock the switches to turn the car are on the column, The lock pushes a rod and makes the contacts happen down on the outside of the column. Be ready when the motor fires over it will jump to about 3000 rpm for the first time till the idle sensor kicks in. That can take a min or a short dive to get it to idle. My method is to jam my thumb down into the idle air passage blocking air flow, tricking the car to try and learn min idle speed. First I would make sure it turns freely, then change the oil before the first fire attempt. A bunch of 84 cars have weak con rods so you really want to be sure they are getting oil. Also check the battery cables, on 84 all the fusible links are on the starter positive lug.

Bought a 1984 Fiero new, great little car but lacking power (like most cars in that era). The body is actually plastic, not fiberglass and the 4-cylinder engine is the GM “Iron Duke” which is known for its durability and reliability. Good luck!

I had a red ‘84 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 2.5 with an automatic. It was ultra sporty back in ‘88, but it was slow. Turn on the air conditioning … and it was even slower! Those were a conglomeration from the GM parts b department: Chevette front steering and suspension and the engine and transmission cradle from a front wheel drive Oldsmobile Omega, turned backward and the Omega transmission reworked to become rear wheel drive (so you didn’t have 4 reverse gears and one forward speed)! Non Fiero specific mechanical parts should be easy to find but trim and upholstery will need to be sourced from Fiero parts specialist and likely won’t be as cheap. Try contacting a GM dealer. Sometimes, with proof of ownership (the title) and the VIN, they might have access to the original key codes and might be able to cut you a key; some manufacturers have that info and some do not or, if the ignition was ever rekeyed, it wouldn’t work out.
@CTmoog17 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. I ordered a replacement key for now but it would be nice to have the factory key to match everything.

Heyyyy CT I hope this one works out for you. Please look up Ronald Finger who did a full KZfaq series restoral on one of these. His story will show you some of the pitfalls and rattlesnake pits that you might run into here. The 4-cylinder is GM's Iron Duke engine, and I think the rear suspension is basically a Chevette front suspension? It can be a shockingly good little car considering the parts-bin engineering that went into it.
