Oh, no it wasn't a "fringe issue", back then! There were terrifying PSAs and brochures about how to survive a nuclear war. And the TV movie, "The Day After", which was so terrifying that many stations aired discussion shows about it, immediately afterwards. In Canada, there was a booklet called "11 Steps to Survival". In Britain, there were the "Protect and Survive" booklet and PSAs. Those PSAs are on KZfaq.

Something that feels odd every time I think about it is that Fergie voiced Sally in a couple of Charlie Brown specials. As in Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. Okay, that Dunkin' Donuts ad actually had a neat little twist at the end. I don't know if Caress still uses that "Before you dress, Caress" slogan, but I do remember hearing it when I was a kid in the 90s. It's weird the stuff I recall. Whatever that was at the end couldn't be real. It was fucking bizarre.

The most notable thing to me is how many brands used to spend money advertising their products over the competition. You rarely see that these days. Also, the pantyhose ads. Now I remember why my mother still complained about the cost decades after her own mother. When my grandma was young they were literally an investment. Ripping them was a tragedy. How many women even wear them these days?

I loved that year. I turned 20, the music was great, on my own, trying to make ends meet making $4 bucks an hour. I later enlisted in the navy and competed bootcamp and A school. Regan was re-elected and we we're proud to be Americans. I can't believe I'm almost 60, but what bothers me the state of our country today. I pray this younger generation brings back some sanity, and looks the past for it. People got along but there was some racism but not like today's problems we face today.
