Wow! So many memories! I used to look so forward to watching these games on Saturday on NBC! I didn’t care who was playing just wanted to watch baseball! My family all got together each week at Granny’s and Granddaddy house and played baseball in the front yard. Even though that was years ago it seems like yesterday! I loved watching ball with Granddaddy. I’d give anything to be able to watch games with him now! I miss him so much! Thank you for posting this!

Saturdays back then were great for me. Watching cartoons in the morning, wrestling in the afternoon, baseball in the afternoon, and more wrestling in the evening.

I've watched this on WNBC-TV Channel 4 (the flagship NBC station) at my former home on 272 Wainwright Street in the Weequahic section of Newark, NJ that very day.

Fantastic! I really miss the GOW, it was something I would plan my Saturday afternoon around. It didn't matter who which teams were playing. These guys are great and the same for Gowdy and Kubek before them.

1984-87 Don Mattingly was a NO doubt about it HOF player, just a clutch hitter, could hit 25-30 HR's a season and play a gold glove 1st base. Shame after 88 he got hurt and just never was the same player again, at least at a elite level.

I was at this game. Remember sitting in the upper deck broiling in the sun, and by the end of the game the temperature felt like it dropped 20 degrees.

A lot of future Minnesota Twins playing in this game. Don Baylor of the 87 WS Champions. Mike Pagliarulo and Jack Morris, teammates on the 91 WS Champions - Pagliarulo hits an 8th inning HR off Morris in this game. Dave Winfield from St. Paul who finished his career with Minnesota. (Also, Butch Wynegar who played with the Twins for many years before going to New York.)

fun game! offense a plenty! I remember meeting Darrell Evans in a grade school special meet and autograph session. all the kids got his and Dave Bergman (RIP) for meets and autos. Really nice guys. Granted, it was a one-time meet, but I did know of Bergman more, he had a kid in Grosse Pointe Little League when I went through. He showed up to games. Bergman, nice quiet guy for sure.

Darrell Evans got jacked during the '84/'85 off-season and came back with a monster year in '85, in an otherwise disappointing follow-up to that magnificent '84 season for the Bengals from Motown.

NBC game of the week, WRC TV channel 4 Washington DC is where I tuned in many a Saturday.

I love the way MLB used to to All Star balloting. It was so straight forward and honest. One might even say that by being all obsessed with something as unimportant as a baseball lineup... That we were celebrating how awesome and simple democracy in general could be. Why have we forgotten that?

And just like Scully mentioned Niekro did pitch that game where he threw no knuckle balls, at least through 8 innings. He then threw a few in the 9th and that game was the last game of the 85 season when he won his 300th game in Toronto.
