Yesterday at Imola Circuit, I had the honor to film after 29 years, the incredible 1985 Lotus 97T F1, the car that has consented to Ayrton Senna, to collect 7 pole position and the first position at the F1 GP of Portugal and Belgium 1985.

Questa macchina e un mostroooo è la più bella macchina di f1 di sempre aveva solo un difetto aveva sete se non avesse avuto problemi di consumo li grandeeeeee magic la portava al mondiale nel 85 e 86 il v6 Renault se lo mangiava a colazione il tag Porsche guidata da ayrton era invincibile mi viene in mente estoril 21 aprile 1985 piove piove così tanto che sembra una gara di motonautica non di f1 eppure ayrton sembra non accorgersi dell'asfalto bagnato al traguardo arrivano tutti con oltre un giro di distacco soltanto alboreto è a oltre un minuto e 20 secondi da ayrton xcio ke dire grandeeee grandissimo magic alla guida della f1 più bella di sempre colin chapman sarebbe stato orgogliosissimo di te e grazieeeee a te babylon car video x aver caricato questa perla degli anni ottanta.....grazie ancora

It's definitely one of em, but I think that the McLaren MP4/6 that Senna drove is still the best driving machine ever made and iconic in appearance.

Seeing Ayrton's name on the car gave me chills. I met Ayrton and Johnny Dumphreys (sp?) back in those days. The cars of that period gave you a gutteral rattle when they stabbed the throttle to keep the turbos wound up. I recall the Brabham I believe was running a BMW turbo that really loosened you fillings!

Only appropriate to see it rolled out in the rain, even though there's a different driver in the car here, we know what a great driver Senna was in the rain, and when he drove this car in such conditions it was no different. Heck, the 1985 rain-soaked Portuguese GP was the very first win of his legendary career in this iconic car!

@detroit nelson Not to mention the amount of stuff they have to manage while under the stress of racing, overtaking, etc: Ayrton was famous for changing brake bias mid turn, and I've caught Ham doing the same on over 10 occasions. People hate change.

Nkosi McRae the difference is the tracks were unsafe & faster, cars had very little downforce, the cars were still very dangerous, over 1000 hp in qualifying, h pattern gearbox, had to actually heel & toe instead of a computer doing it for you, no power steering, and in the 80s very little in the car telling them what’s going on. They had to actually feel what the car was doing, now they just wait for the pits to tell them what’s wrong. They had to feel the temperatures in the tire, and feel when they were losing grip, and had to manage the tires completely on their own. now they have computers telling them what the temperatures are at, how fast the tires are degrading, and a pretty close estimate of how many laps they have left. So while I am not against change, the older drivers had it much much harder than today’s. You can argue g forces all day, but it’s nothing they couldn’t have handled back then. So Yes Hamilton can change brake bias during a corner, but Can he do it while dealing with all the stuff that old drivers had to do through a corner?

@@kealamorgan9910 not at this time. The first f1 car with power steering was the legier in 1988. It wasn't until around 91 or 92 when power steering really took off

Big missfire at 3:49. I guess it can't be helped because of the 2 monster "dark side" turbos that lurk in the engine bay. I can imagine the hard time the mechanics had to tune this engine to its finest. Still my favorite F1 car though. Great video. Very nice camera angles.

Babylon Car Video Thank you very much :) very kind of you! I've watched your video of that Miura Jota like a thousand times the car is just too epic! And yea the 787b is a sweet car! The Mazda on my channel though is the 767b, a car prior to the 787b. Never won Le Mans, but the engine was pretty similar delivering a great sound just like the 787b!

Somehow this engine sounds a little rich. Seems to be breaking up at higher loads. What a fantastic sound though, 1979-1988 was a great era for F1. I wish there were more videos of these cars...

It's always better to be hella rich with turbo engines, than even a little lean.... This avoids detonation which could be catastrophic with high performance engines......plus the extra fuel cools the cylinders...

+The Flying Gasmask He has one in the truck he uses to transport the car and all of the equipment. I was there, this was in May 2014 in Imola, as part of the tribute for the 20th anniversary of Ayrton's death. For some reason, he decides to use his own helmet.

The talent Senna had was unmatchable. I know Schumacher was great, one of the best, Hamilton is great. But what Senna was doing in the Lotus 97T, 98T, 99T was just raw talent. He was competing for a championship in the '86 and '87 seasons with much less of a car. He should have 4 championships in a row had the little French buddy system not f'd him over. Then in '92 and definately '93 he was still winnin multiple racea and competing in a then inferior McLaren. Had he not died it would have been great racing between him, Schumacher, Hakkinen, Coulthard and a few others.
