Mainly helps with a little noise reduction. Some people claim it's to protect the paint from engine heat.

@@woodsandbarclay I'm trying to understand what I can do to reduce noise in my w123 because I love the car but it feels very loud compared to a modern car. So far I have : hoodpad, new/extra insulation in the cabin, door seals and engine mounts; Do you see anything else I could do? Thanks a lot a great video

@@Altanox the noise is part of the appeal of the 300D. I'm sorry but we do not alter the cars from the original condition. The way Mercedes designed them is the best way in our opinion. If you wanted to really limit the noise you would remove all of the interior and put in sound dampening mats.

@@woodsandbarclay That's indeed a very good solution. I will look into that. I enjoy the sound of the car, but not so much not noise of it, if that makes sense. The engine is sexy, but hearing the road through my floor for 2 hours straight is not something i enjoy. I hope i can tune the car a bit. Amazing videos thx a lot
