This was ABC's first ever flag-to-flag coverage of the 'Atlanta 500'. Previously, the race was shown on a same-day tape-delay coverage of various lengths over the years (depending on what else ABC's Wide World Of Sports was showing that day).

Thanks for putting this up...I remember watching this when it happened...Great win for an under dog like Morgan Shephard driving an unsponsored Buick for Jack Beebe..I noticed this is from WKBW in Buffalo...Channel...I remember Commander Tom...I live in Beamsville,Ontario now but I grew up in Grimsby...Where are you from,busch77?

Thanks for the race. I love seeing these older races, especially the ones I didn't get to see originally. But, could ABC have found anyone LESS knowledgeable than Jim Lampley and Sam Posey about the subtleties of NASCAR? It was laughable. They say at the end of this video that Phil Parsons "Who's father is Bennie Parsons" was out of the race because he ran over an air hose... when they watched him come back onto the track and commented on it!

It's incredible how the networks loved to use meat-heads like Al Michaels or Al Trautwig on auto racing broadcasts to explain a sport they know NOTHING about. Keep them in the football stadium, and give us an expert!

I agree with you on Michaels and Trautwig and especially Jim Lampley, but both Jim McKay and Keith Jackson weren't half bad with motorsports, from what I seen.
