1986 Isle of Man TT Races. A year I will never forget. The sound of Geoff Cannells' voice "oh my godfathers", as a pony leaps a hedge onto the course by Ballaugh Bridge and collides with a rider, killing him instantly. Such an eventful year and one that will never be forgotten.

If only Robert Dunlop lived to see what his son accomplished. Great documentary.

I always remember Roberts fatal accident at the Northwest, and the organisers tried to prevent Michael from taking part in a later race. But MD went out and won the race, dedicating the win to his dad. I shed a few tears that day.

These old videos a great, my parents were at the TT in 86, my mother was pregnant with me at the time too but i didn’t arrive for another few months. Nearly 40years later and TT is bigger than ever and going strong. Greatest show on earth.

Almost 40 years and the Dunlop name still dominates much of the time.

@@Manxmann We’re lucky to have been about to see them all race, I’ve seen them all race and watched William and Michael come up, my young lad seen William and Michael race but he was born 5 months before the NW in 08 so he missed Joey and Robert, the youngest child has only seen Michael race so I’m delighted for all the times I was brought to Skerries and Killalane etc when I was a kid.

My first tt was when I was a 3-month-old baby lying in a pram while my mother, father, and sister provided tea and sandwiches from a marquee at Hillberry in 1952. Maybe Joey Dunlop was there too as we shared the same birth year.

I've been there first time this year 2024, after trying to do it for the last 25 years more or less (im 50 now...) and, if before was very attracted by the idea of racing on a 60kms tracks around an island, ater see what really happens there and what the whole thing mean for thousands of people around the world, i can say im hooked. I hope i can go there every year for the rest of my life. Thanks for this video.

@@Manxmann thanks to anyone involved to make it posible. Without the Orange Army, police and Manx people in general, that will not be posible nowadays. Is simply amazing how well everything works. Thinking very seriously to become marshal...

A funny story from a first time marshal this year. @@botiduran344Marshalled at the TT this week, I’m not allowed to take photos of the races. Managed to wave one green flag. Was fire marshal another day, didn’t have a fire, was deputy fire marshal on a third day, the senior fire marshal wasn’t called into action, so neither was I. On days 4 and 5 I was tasked with picking up any crashed bits of motorcycles, no one crashed. Was desperate for Michael Dunlop to get his record breaking amount of wins, whilst I was on track, he didn’t, he managed it the day after I left. Can’t wait for next year. 😂

@@Manxmann except for the historic moment of Dunlop beating the record, the rest i guess are all good news and perfect situation for any marshal: enjoy as closer to the track as anybody can be, without living any dramatic situation. Good for him!

They were lucky to retrieve the bikes as the sea is very deep to the west of the island , the east side is much shallower. Incredible, really.

Yes, a good Ballemena man left too soon at 24 years of age. 1986 was a disastrous racing season for the irish racers losing 5, or was it 6 riders.
