Something about this car made me fall in love with it, I really want a 944.

The 1989 & up model was the best one to own. 3liter 4cylinder upgraded to 256hp. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 13.6 at 105mph. I had a black one with 180,000 miles on it when I sold it and regretted it ever since.I. bought it new so had it for a long time,miss it..I never had any reliability issues with it so I don't understand why people say it's unreliable because I thought it was bulletproof to me. I had it maintained thru a Porsche dealer here in Charlotte NC. had the oil changed every 3,500 miles just because it was a turbo so u have to keep the oil fresh. The women really loved that car alot and it definitely was a chick magnet. so if your thinking of getting one, do it..u and your jimmie won't be sorry if ya know what I mean.

Ohh the 944 is so sexy. A 944 in red or white with black wheels and trim would be a lovely car to have.

Holy crap! I've got the pre-change '85 944, and I had no idea the interior looked that much better in the newer models. Damn man, looks good.

I had this same model Porsche with a cold air intake, Borla exhaust, wrapped headers, and no cats!! Got rid of it at 226,000 miles.. It was a thrill. You thinking about buying one of these you really cant go wrong

0-60 in 6 seconds, really? That's quick for 1986, and quick for 217 hp. Nice car, if a bit lower on cachet than other Porsches, which is cool too.

I have an '83, non turbo. Best car I've ever driven. Mine is quick... I can only imagine the pickup on the turbo.

one of my neighbours used to own one of these in the '90s and man, i was drooling with my buddies every time we saw him drive this.

i own a 944 so i can just add a few notes to this beautiful beast. yeah that temp gauge was faulty, but the oil gauge was not. the oil gauge will stay up until the motor has ran a bit or warmed up. the rear wing is rubber with a metal frame built inside (i've cut one up). side note, the brake caliper is soo sexy. these cars are sleek on turns and are just real eye catchers, and built to last.

Brings back so many good and bad memories. My first car was a Guards Red 88' 944 n/a. That one caught on fire while I was driving it and was totaled. Got a 86 Alpine White 944 Turbo (951) in 2001 took it to college and then sold it in 2007. It was expensive to maintain and there were lots of electrical grimlins but I still miss it.

Normally, I don't like foreign made cars but I love these older Porsche's mainly for their styling

@jwatwater 1. Okay... 2. Those door handles are on all 944s and were changed when the 968 was introduced. They are actually very similar to the old VW beetle handles if you are familiar to those. 3. The button lights up a small bulb in the key head to help light the keyhole at night. Power locks are not common on these cars until the late 80s/early 90s. On a side note, that steering wheel is aftermarket and looks like crap. The stock wheel was all leather and much cleaner looking.

I would go with a Non-Turbo model instead of the turbo. Having a turbo is nice to have, But that just means its an added issue when you have mechanical problems. Just my opinion

@jwatwater 3. its a light botton that lights mini bulb at the end of keyholder. use it to light up keyhole to not miss it in dark.

Thinking about getting a 944 for my first car. Seems cheap and reasonable but just worried about maintenance. But with a car looking like that....who cares!

This is a classic, which still doesn't look or drive that old, due to Porsche being a decade ahead of its contemporaries with their design. Looks extremely tight, rock-solid.

@fatty 1443. If the condition is similar to the above and is a turbo, 9k is not bad. I drive this car daily,a 1989 and it is a blast.you have to be aware of the maintenance though and need to learn about this car.Remember, this is a Porsche and it could be cost prohitive maintenancewise.

My dream car is a 1993 mustang gt v8. Please don't talk about mustangs unless they are v8! I love it I'm a muscle freak, but I got the 944 nonturbo as my first car for a ridiculous deal its not four cyl, its a straight 6, but it has potential, engine is fine needs work though (body, paint, interior, music) that's about it, car runs great but, I plan to keep it & put a turbo in there & keeping it the family. There's just something about this car I love and want my future son to have!

I believe the button is actually a light that goes with the actual key itself for easier entry when you cant see the door lock at night or something...

each "BAR" is a atmosphere of pressure, eg. 1 BAR is atmospheric pressure, aka 14.7 psi or 101 kPa, 2 BAR is 2 atmospheres, which is 29 psi or 201 kPa

Unless the 944 S2 is hugely different from a 944, you should be fine. I'm 6'2 and the only thing I have to do is slightly tilt the seat back. My peripheral lets me see out the rear passenger window though but it's very comfortable.

@polskaRed i meant the wrong side for porsches. i know why porsches have the ignition on the left of the wheel, but this one has it on the right because it was originally supposed to be a VOLKSWAGEN.

If you don't have a full drivers license, the examiner might not like that it looks like you're lying down... it's VERY comfortable.. and the sun visor does NOTHING except block all your vision. But it's really nice.

@leemill140 def do a lot of research before buying a 944T(951). Average turbo prices around 7-13K, depending on which year. Biggest things are belt and water pump replacement. Shops charge up to $1300 for this service. Not an easy job bc it is an interface engine and if anything is off your engine becomes a paper weight. Other issues are poor electrical connections and vaccum leaks. These are cars that require a lot of attention! Parts are expensive but worth all the joy this car creates.

absolutely, timing belts are a dime a dozen but are a 4 hour replacement.

@hitssquad - Yeah, but think about it in context of the time.. A brand new Camry may "smoke" it, but at the time that was a fantastic piece of engineering. Lets also not forget that the 944's (even the turbos) were much cheaper than the equivalent 911's and the top spec 944's boasted similar performance, not to mention better handling.. So in context of the time, the 944 is a great car, regardless of how it goes against a much newer Camry, which will never be as exciting or rewarding as a 944!!!

So SOLID…get inside, close the door behind you and ABSOLUTE SILENCE.

The brake calipers are a signature piece of Porsches and some people decide to change these along with other parts of the brakes, which is a seriously bad move since many people would be turned off (including myself) to find that some no-name racer 'performance' brake gear had been fitted instead
